I just spent my lunch studying the first couple of pages of your thread getting ideas for work benches and cabinets along with more tools that I will be needing (What a project)

I have caught up to the present day on Dec 26 2015. I want to offer my sympathy for your loss. Continue this great thread I wait for your next post.
I retired from the Air Force in 1981 with a little over 20 years so I know a little about military life.

Just got your posts and I want to thank you for your interest in my thread and especially for posting on it, so that I can be allowed to meet you!!
I have a little bit of this and that in my shop, so I do woodworking and mechanical things out there. I also want to thank you for your Air Force service.
I supose I do gripe a little about my "elderly" status more than I should. At least there are the discounts (Military and Senior Citizen) and a few other benefits. Being "71" next month just makes me shake my head as I no where feel that age. Not withstanding, I have lived a very blessed life and I look forward to as much more as there will be!!!

Thanks so much for your kind comments on the thread, and I look forward to more conversation with you.

Best Regards
Herb

Thanks for your post. Since you have looked over my shop set up which has not significantly changed much over the last two years, I will just say that it has seemed to work smoother than other ways I have had set ups. You have a nice space in your new shop, and I would encourage you to try as much as possible to have an open door, where you could roll out to the outside when possible to work. I love to have my table saw(s), Miter Box, and Belt Sanders and routers "outside" in a shady area. Of course in inclement weather, your inside shop will be great for you.
I like the things your doing in your woodshop, especially with the vintage tools you have!!

Best Regards
Herb

Herb,

I have to agree with your recommendations, I have always been a big fan of how you go about things in your shop, doing things out side where possible.

Portability and flexibility are key in IMHO. In a smallish shop like I have I would struggle doing it any other way, as I am limited to what equipment I can have permanently mounted.

There is nothing like the great outdoors.

Have a great day.

Thanks 1/2 Cup. Don's new woodshop will be great. I am sure I will be copying some of his ideas.

Finally got some time to reorganize the garage. Spent the weekend on the backroom mostly and some in the garage as well. I was shocked by my low beer inventory. Fixing that tomorrow at Sam's club. My entire garage and backshop was full of Holiday decorations and tons of boxes and junk. Just couldn't stand the mess so dedicated the last two days to clean up and reshuffling things.

More pics in next post.

More work on org. Nice to get things back in shape. Only known panic item was the low refreshment inventory! Herb let that one catch him, but we had a LOT of holiday company.
I usually keep the garage fridge and my coca cola machine FULL of Killian, Sam Adams, and some local brewery brands (micro brews).

Hope everyone had great holidays!

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

Thanks for the update Herb - although, your workshop is always neat and tidy.

Happy new year my friend.:beer:

Edit:- I noticed after I "submitted" this post that there were 2 beer emoticon things - but I've decided to leave them both, because sometimes one is not enough. :lol_hitti

Looking very tidy Herb. You even make the small items look like they are in just the right place. But definitely get that fridge stocked. Can't have a shop without proper supplies!
Someday I aspire to have a work space this organized.

Looking good as always, Herb. A man who takes that much pride in his work space takes pride in every other aspect of his life, too.

Happy New Year, sir!

Good to see you got some shop time in Herb, now that she's all nice and clean does that mean there is a cool project you are about to start ?

I'd be glad to walk into that space in the morning with a hot tea or coffee ready to tinker :)

Cheers Grumblebum.

Thanks for the visit Grumblebum. Wife has me up for some changes and painting in the kitchen and dining room next week. That should give me a project for a few days.
Thanks again for your visit and I enjoy your thread as well.

Got a neat little fan forced electric shop heater. This was from www.northern tool.com.
I have a wall mounted infrared gas heater already but this warms up the work area too much for just a quick job. This little electric heater is just right when I want to be at the bench for a short time. Best part it was on sale about 40 percent off!

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

I have always been a "portable" carpenter. While doing a trim job for a neighbor, I made up my latest carry a long work kit. I reactivated my Veto Propac tool bag. I also found value in GRK trim screws. I think they are great! With my Dewalt nailer, saw and drill I am good to go without being without much. I am into "portable".
Ps. The tool bag is still as heavy as I remember it being!
Best Regards
Herb

That looks a nice little heater Herb

In matching Red I might add.

Regards

1/2 Cup

The little heater is fantastic. While it is rated to heat 1000 sq ft, I am not so sure about that, maybe under ideal conditions. But I can tell you for certain it will heat my 400 sq ft garage, and make you want to turn it down to a lower setting!

Thanks for the visit

With your affinity for red I'm surprised to see DeWalt and not Milwaukee

SG

I do have some Milwaukee "reds" but Dewalt is my go to for being away from the shop, as the batteries in Dewalt seem to last longer on charge. I am really liking them for portables. I especially like my new Dewalt Battery Powered Saw.

Thanks for your comments and I appreciate your visit!

The Veto Propack maybe heavy but they are by far one of the best work bags ever. Im going on 6 years with mine of hard abuse. From -30F temps to Rain and me dragging it up the sides of buildings with a rope. The shoulder strap is the only week point. I warrantied my first one then got a double gel padded strap that carries on 2 shoulders back pack style.

Love the garage!

I agree with you very much that the Veto is one of the best bags out there. When I first got mine, I was doing apartment repairs, and I had it loaded up for about everything. I carried it in and out and up lots of steps. For a good range of tools "with" you, on one trip, it is great. The only thing happening to my bag was the handle busted, but I epoxied it back in and it has been fine.
Thanks for your visit and comments!!
