You can't possibly go with any other colour than red..... Surely.

Just in my opinion.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I can assure you RED will be in the top five candidates!

The Columbian vise is done. It had a lot of wear but came out ok. I will probably swap it out with my Wilton or Craftsman.

Best Regards

Sorry guys for the delay in responding to your comments. I had a quick trip out of town just after posting the finished vise. I soaked this in a degreaser available from Sams Club and used a mounted wire wheel to clean all the old paint. I then polished the hardware on my buffing wheel using white rouge polish.
This vise is a real testimony to quality American Made Products. It has been pounded over the years hard, but is not hurt anywhere. While Wilton is the Garage Journal benchmark, this Columbian comes very close as well.

Best Regards and thanks so much for your comments!

Thanks for your visit BF!

The vise is indeed a heavy one. I put it around the late 40s to mid 50s.

I decided to mount it on my heavy duty machine bench.

Best Regards
Herb

Two brainstorm today. Keep the silverware basket from your old dishwasher for holding things like pipe cement, etc. Save a laundry jug for storing carwash. About two pumps is enough for a carwash bucket. I tended to use too much in my carwash. Actually we throw out useful stuff don't we?

Best Regards
Herb

Well done Herb. That vise looks awesome. That's a great idea for the detergent jug. I wonder if you can use paint in them. Maybe one red one gray?

You could probably store Killians Irish "RED" in them but first wash them out well. It would be like a "mini keg".

Herb,

Love the vise. The dishwasher basket is a good idea. I kept the plastic silverware organizer my wife replaced a few years back and use it out in the shop, it comes in handy. I put wrenches in a slot, screwdrivers in another, etc, then when I go under a vechicle to work on it everything I think I need is in it.

I had shop time today and wanted a First Aid Kit from out the ones I already had. I found a metal one, cleaned it up and painted it. I also had some other canidates (army ones) but they are plastic and not what I wanted where I wanted it. The white one in the photo already mounted in my back shop. There is nothing of much use in an army first aid kit, or as they say it "Kit, First Aid, Vehicular", so I kept some gauze pads and put in a new box of bandaids.

Thanks for stopping in on Shorty's Shed. I need to read through your thread since so many others comment about it and we have similar taste in colors (Texaco).

I did come across this post and thought about how much I could use a station like this, especially 4 weeks ago.

Thanks for the stop by. I do have several KITS, First Aid, stationed around the shop, house and vehicles. At 71 years old I can bruise or cut pretty easily now of days, and I need a quick bandaid on hand.

Hope to have you here often, and thanks for your visit!!

Best Regards

Hey Shorty, you could have used a bit more than a few band-aids - like maybe an ambulance standing by. :lol_hitti

Sorry for the intrusion on your thread Herb, but I couldn't help myself. :D

Mark

I am always very pleased to have you post on my thread and I look forward to being on yours. Good to hear from you!!

This little first aid kit seems to be pretty complete for the shop or for travel.
It was $39.95 from Amazon. Others I looked at were either way too big or were lacking
supplies needed. This has a good assortment of useful items. I ordered another for the car and fishing trips.

Best Regards
Herb Spencer

I've always enjoyed peeking in on your thread Herb! Gearing up for a little trout fishing myself, gotta go scratch that itch.

Thanks for the visit. I have already sneaked out a couple times this month for a little fly fishing nearby. Been a little cold, but that makes it better when your frying the fish!!

Thanks again!

Best Regards
Herb
