Spring shop cleanup

You can see my place is getting pretty full of stuff. I need to think of something more to house a few of these woodworking tools. I do, however, work very comfortably in the shop as it is. I would like to increase my storage but it seems I need another outbuilding.
Counting my back shop and outbuilding I have around 775 sq ft of shop area.

Herb, go on YouTube and check out "flip top carts". Its like the old craftsman table in which you mounted 3 tools to and spin it around to one you needed. Its something that doesn't fit my shop but you with your wood working tools you might be able to save some space. I don't care your shop still looks great even if you say it's not.

I am real excited about my next restoration project. I scored this Craftsman 8 inch vintage saw today at a flea market. It is in excellent shape, and just needs a new blade and the usual clean up. It cut a 2X4 smoothly as you can see from the photo. I want to restore it as perfectly as possible. It has had one switch put in it, as the old one was in the box. These also had a little grease gun for the bearings, which is missing. I am putting it at 1950, as I found it in the printed out page attached from the 1950 Craftsman tool catalog. I will post progress as I restore the tool!!!! (Wonder if Red Leader has one of these!!! LOL)

HS: i'll be reviewing your pictures i'm sure for months and maybe years to come cause i think you've nailed it with the well organized and great looking shop and a small woodshop in a detached shed too.

Thanks to Son in Law, I may be the only guy in town with granite counter tops on his workbenches. Son in Law tore out a rich lady's kitchen because she thought the color was too dark, and was able to save 90% of the material. He brought me a lot of it and is going to come and cut and set it this weekend. He will also cut me some small pieces for use on tables I will build. Some of this will need the bullnose ripped off and some will need to be bullnosed on the rough sides.
It must be nice to be rich? LOL.

It would be nice to have a large place, but I am really happy with the place I have. What would be even nicer if the walls would expand a foot or two everytime you get a new tool.

I have seen those flip tables and they do make sense in a small space. I have all of my machines on wheels, so I can move them pretty easily around the shop. I fought that table saw without wheels for too many years so I geared up and made it easy to move.

Thank you!! I am thinking of maybe making the top removable. That way if I am assembling something or painting something on that bench, I can slip it off and move it aside. Still thinking about it which is dangerous for me!!

Or think the other way round Herb. Since the marble is heavy to move around, make a lighter weight protective top to cover it when painting or doing some work you don't want to directly touch the marble.

HS: i have a small granite surface plate and had a big cast iron surface plate that have/had plywood tops on them to protect them when not in use. with your woodworking skills i bet you could whip one up in a few minutes and maybe have some foam cushions placed inside it so you wouldn't scratch the granite.

I have a metal sprayer that i haven't used in a while and it seem like the only real thing you need to replace on them are the O rings especially if you clean out the nozzles every once in a while.

your yard already looks great.


i bet it will look even better after this weekend. bee careful using too much BEN GAY cause it could hurt your horizontal exercising you might need to recover from all your hard work.

Herb, I can't say I've ever seen a granite top in a shop before, but it is certainly stunning. It is also very fitting in your shop. I doubt I'd have any problem eating something that had fallen on anything in your shop. Very impressive.

After shaking her head a little, she had that "I will design something for that" look in her eye!!

Yard Work all day long

Got into it big time today as it was sunny and 75F. Got the bird bath installed and wife planted all the flowers she bought yesterday. I think the old place (42 years old this coming May) looks half way decent. We had this house built in 1975 when we moved here.
Anyway I am bone tired and the shower is calling me. Wife is tired too so we will do a "joint" effort on the evening meal.

Herb, I was very quiet when I saw the granite. It would have been a kitchen or bathroom project in our house moments after it arrived in the driveway. It crossed my mind to suggest a stick-on shelf paper design but that might draw unwanted attention and one of those "ah $hits" that wipes out more than a thousand "atta-boys.".

I suspect you didn't really want granite countertops in the garage but I also bet you hadn't planned on a new set of projects in the house. Look on the bright side, this will certainly require some diamond cutting blades and a new tool or three.

Outstanding work on the yard. It looks very park-like and restful. I am guessing your wife, like mine, is a big fan of turtles. So far I have managed to limit them to artificial specimens. A live on at the side of the road was almost adopted but we would have been late to an appointment (that was close).
