Herb: great to hear you and your bride are enjoying life!!

i'm sure others would agree that we'd love to see vacation and travel pictures probably as much as garage type pics if you are taking a bit of a break from the shop so post up a few if you have time.

also if you get a chance we'd all like to have you post on our threads cause your positive attitude is infectious.

cheers

Herb, my young friend it’s good to hear from you. I happy to hear you and your better half are doing well. Traveling is good thing and I’m been getting out in our camper as much as we can. I also love the GJ but I so have been spending times in other areas. Keep safe my friend.

Herb, Glad to hear you've been out exploring the country and enjoying some travel with your wife. I'm getting ready for a trip out west myself this summer. The shop remodel sounds like a project we will all follow with anticipation especially if a color change is coming!

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I am going to really need it! This will be a "nose to toes" remodel and it will take a while because I have a lot of things to make in putting it back together. In the pictures is only a small beginning! Also wife had to move in the house to continue her work!!

I am sick already!! Ever wish you had not started something but knew you needed to in order to keep your sanity? Yes, me too!!

Stay tuned for another installment!

Best Regards
Herb

Herb: since you needed to make a change and it looks like you are well on your way don't turn back and make progress when you can. also remember to smell the roses so to speak and take a day to spend doing something fun (or a week or two) and the project will be there when you return.

from what i've seen of your work in the past it will turn out great so best of luck and we're here pulling for you so post up pictures so we can follow along. also don't hesitate to ask if you might have some questions cause there is a lot of talent on GJ that might be able to help you.

GOOD LUCK

All

There is a tiny bit of progress from my remodel. I included a "before" photo.
All I have really done is get the office area updated with paint and reorganizing.
I moved the refrigerator to the garage area and brought in my all cleaned up woodworking hand tool box. Most of the tools in it were from my dad, so I want to keep them in good shape.
Next I will do the rest of the room, and then move to the garage for the same effects with the wall paint and cleaning and organizing. I like the soft yellow color I chose. I HIGHLY value my "HiLoft brand shelving over the desk. It holds a lot!!

Thanks to all for your support and good wishes!! Thanks to drivesitfarand 1/2 Cup for your posts above! (I can't IMAGINE I let it get that dirty as in the "before" photo. Not my style!)

Best Regards
Herb

Thanks WarrenJ and 1/2 Cup

The culprit on this deal is the unvented blue flame gas wall heater that I have been using in there for four years. It leaves an oily smokey film on everything. I suspect it due to not enough fresh air coming into the room. I leave it on all though the winter as it has a thermostat.
My options are: Electric heat which I prefer not to do, or a "vented" heater which is hard to find in the size I need and is pretty expensive. Another option would be an outside unit, ducted into the room, which is cost "ineffective" for a small shop area. (Cost of equipment and installation).
I have ordered a radiant style Natural gas heater with a horizontal vent which is the best method, but I hate to have to install the horizontal vent. I like vented wall heaters, but they are expensive too!!
I knew the heater was fogging up my walls and equipment in there but I had previously done nothing about it. This has caused me to wash the walls and each piece of everything before I put it back. You can see the wall heater in the attached picture.

Thanks and Best Regards
Herb

Nice progress Herb. The office area looks neat and fresh. Too bad about the heater issue. Not sure how you solve that issue other than change heaters completely.

Herb, one of my favorite things is to spend other people's money. Have you considered installing a mini split heat pump? You get year-round climate control and I'm seeing 12,000 btu 17SEER systems for less than $800. I know that's more expensive than a heater but if you include the cost of an air conditioner, it's getting close.

Wow, Herb, looks great! You know though, if you hadn't moved anything off the walls, they would have looked good, lol. However, awesome is the norm in your place and that's what you have now. I love the wooden toolchest!

Herb: not sure if you want to spend the money of have the skills that 1/2 Cup does to install a mini split heater AC, but you might look into that and check out 1/2's thread cause he installed one in his shop maybe 2 months ago.

or I've heard a little CADET heater can work if you don't need the AC.

looks great as I thought it would and keep up the great work.

cheers

Thanks for your comments guys!

Made some more progress today on the backshop. I am now painting the other half where I have more workbenches, and the heater and sink wall. It is the time factor of taking down everything and washing walls and equipment.

I talked with my HVAC friend today and he thinks what I have ordered would take care of the problem, and gave me two door air registers to install. These will be cut into the doors and will have an adjustable venting lever where I can bring in more air for the wall heater I will install. I really don't need a/c in there. My window unit would take care of the room, and to be honest I haven't even installed it this year. Our weather gets a tad hot, but nothing to worry about. I usually always have the doors open in both the garage and the backshop, and use a dual bladed fan in the windows. I do have a nice electric heater that will bring the shop up to 68 degrees, but so far I have used the wall heater mostly.
Thanks for your interest and stay tuned for a completion on this phase soon!!

Best Regards
Herb

HS: Sounds like you are doing it RIGHT and even though it's the tough part of the job where you don't seem to go fast enough you'll love it when you are done so best of luck.

pace yourself and make sure you have good ventilation and/or a mask for your painting so you don't have any ill effects.

have a great day!!

Thanks for stopping by. Everything was going great until I lost my balance and had to jump off the TOP step of a two foot ladder, while holding a can of spackle in one hand and a putty knife in the other. I landed on my right heel and it caused a case of "Planter Fasciitis" which here in Arkansas we call a "bruised heel".
To make it worse, I was wearing my favorite old worn out house shoes with no arch or other support, and off jumps the right shoe which caused me a twisting action putting even more stress on the right heel.
If 1/2 Cup knew about this he would probably write me up for unsafe workplace practices, but if we don't tell him I will just skate by.
I bought the Dr Scholls inserts for treatment of "Plantar Fasciitis" and it does make walking feel better, but pressure on the heel equals pain and no pressure on the heel equals "less" pain. I am using creams with lidocaine and that helps too. I had one of these before compliments of the US Army when I jumped off the back of a moving 155mm Howitzer onto a rocky road. It took about a month to get finally over it then.
I am still "mission capable" so I can finish the job, but probably need remedial workplace safety instruction.

Thanks again
Herb "Planter Fasciitis of the right heel" Spencer LOL

1/2 Cup

Thanks!

The right heel is still pretty sore, but I am making it ok with the "home treatments".

We had a trip yesterday, that included a Walking Tour of Senator Robert Kerr's museum.
Senator Kerr was a fantastic Senator from Oklahoma, who did a lot for the State and was responsible for the McCellan-Kerr river navigation system around here. He was also a part owner of the Kerr-McGee oil company that many would remember if they were near my age or a little younger. Anyway, after that "walking tour" I was ready to head home and put up the feet on my soft footstool!!

Worked most of the day in my shop without too much trouble since I put in the shoe inserts. Got a lot done and enjoyed the day.

Thanks again for your support!!

Best Regards

HS: sorry to hear you fell off your little ladder. GEESH falling is not good as we get our age and older so BEE CAREFUL. glad you only had a small injury and not something major and hope you heal up quickly.

i've been giving my bride foot rubs practically daily for about the last year trying to help relieve her pain from her Plantar Faciatis and it seems to be helping slowly.

have a great weekend and best of luck with the rest of the remodel!!

Small progress on shop office. Most painting done in there. Moving and pitching junk as I go along. Now I have more time to work on it!

Best Regards

Been thinking about you with the storm and all. Hope your not in it!!
The office/shop seems much bigger now that I moved the fridge to the garage, and junked out a lot of things I had been keeping. I am trying to accomplish the impossible: To have everything I need and nothing I don't.

VERY good to hear from you again!!

Best Regards

Your place is looking great Herb. So true that it feels better just being clean and organized.

rmalkow2

Yes I agree and with my new heater and having dejunked every drawer and box I feel really good about things.

I went with a lot of red/yellow as I like the looks of it!

Best Regards
