What is a scochi bit?
What is a javelina?
Which dictionary do you use?, (I can never find some of your words in my Oxford,Reader's Digest or Collins ones)

A "scochi" is a slang term for a very small measurement;I believe it is the equivalent of two RCH's. An RCH is a polite term for the.... well let's just say it is the protective covering in the lower regions of the female anatomy and leave it at that.
A javelina is a wild pig but I'm not sure what country it is native to.:shocking:

Thanks very much for the explanations. :)

I'm constantly stumped by some of the words that 'ducksface' uses, methinks he does it deliberately! (but I do like his views on things, I think?).

Scochi, a Japanese word, is spelled scochi when translated to our alphabet, based on pronunciation trends. It is spelled as the dictionary used for the root word, when based on formal letter writing of a language not so easily translated from speech to written.

The dictionary is wrong.

American authors misspell the word as skosh to match American english needs for pronunciation and to mimic gaelic words they know. They are thinking of skoosh which is not scochi. It is spelled the way it is in that dictionary so it can be easily pronounced. The dictionary picked up on the misspelling and called it correct.
Scochi is the informal and regular pronunciation for the formal word that dictionary said is the root for their misspelled word 'skosh'. In Japanese many times vowels are hinted at and not pronounced. It is much like some of you when writing will write 'he could of done it' instead of the correct 'he could HAVE done it'. You misheard or because we skip a bit and misununciate to the point of losing touch with the real word. I'm sure many not native speakers of English think 'wanna' (I wanna go ta da store) is a real word and might be interested in the spelling.

Had I meant skosh,

I think skosh is a varied spelling for skoosh.
Skoosh is Gaelic or Scottish.
It has a similar meaning as scochi. Skosh/skoosh is determined as liquid. Scochi is determined as a slight adjustment of any sort.

'does the board need to be cut shorter?'
'Scochi bit'

'Would you like more scotch?'
'just a skosh'

Now look up 'jet' on line and see what is left out.

Love this thread. I never cared about small tools until I got an Audi. Now I constantly use 1/4" drive ratchets with locking extensions and other assorted tiny wrenches. I have a Sure-Bilt 1/4" ratchet that is 90mm. It looks like the Titan.

But the winner is.... Koken 2753PS at 75mm. I suppose you could cut down your Titan or Sure-Bilt.

I had to EDIT my response to include this slick 1-finger-handled beauty with a square hole for a breaker bar... Nepros NBR290H measures every bit of 49mm!!

Fairly recently I acquired a Matco AR4 ergo ratchet in 1/4" that has one of the smallest heads I've seen but the handle is just big enough to grip. Fairly fine action.
Bottom right of the family pic.

I have several 1/4 in. ratchets but this one, new to my collection, is the smallest.
Snap-On GM-70-M made between 1937 and 1958. Does anyone out there have one smaller?
This wright 2426 has the smallest head I've found not the shortest length but it must be a contender for most compact ( ps I know this is an old thread but I'm looking for the absolute most compact 1/4 rat)

Off topic but this is the most compact 3/8 I've found the duralast 73-868 it's head is even smaller than the wright 2426 1/4 drive ( which is the most compact 1/4 I've found) the 2 ratchets to the left are a custom 1/4 Williams m-52ehfa with a 3/8 drive and a sk 45171 which is the 1/4 head but a bit longer with a 3/8 drive you and drop regular 1/4 drives in both the Williams and sk but the duralast is much more compact

The earlier 2400 model is just a wee bit smaller IN diameter. It was re-branded by Wright for a number of others - among them Powr-Kraft.

If you're looking for access into a hole, that little "Titan" unit is really the cat's meow currently. (post #50) Under $20 bucks at O'Reilly's.

I found this little guy in some old tools today. (In my garage) I have no idea where it came from. It needs a good cleanup, I did oil it and wipe it off.
Any way to tell how old it is?

It is becoming part of my little indoor workbench, it will be a compliment to the rest of the toys.

Where did you get that one? Does it have a reverse that looks the same (since I'm guessing the other side is likely marked "L")?
I got it at a yard sale in a baggie full of sockets for $1. Both sides identical. No reverse lever, you just push the driver to the side you want. Comes in really handy at work.
