I'm trying to find similar information. I was able to find some heavy duty file cabinets for dirt cheap (GovDeals.com). Now, i would like to find small bins and some organization method for putting nuts & bolts in cabinets. Anyone used this method succesfully? The hanging bins probably would work, but I wonder if there is a better box that fits in standard letter size drawers?

Just a quick thought.
How about building a cabinet frame like what they sell for wall mounted ironing boards and fill the cabinet with small plastic bins that hang on a metal cleat. You could build the cabinet frame from the wall studs and a top and bottom 2x cut to fit between studs.
I think I saw someone on this board who did that so they might chime in.

here is a link to a built in cabinet.

and the bins

I picked this one (tan cabinet on left side of bench) at a thrift store for $50.

The plastic cases are Plano units I bought on clearance at Lowe's for $2. I can fit 2 per drawer with room for smaller boxes in front or back.

There's a couple of nut and bolt storage threads. Most of those ideas could be used for what your wanting or modified for your use.

I like that sliding channel system idea. My Menards uses that for thier retail racks with bins of nuts and bolts.

Here's what I have:

That's one of the big 48" racks. The price for all of them was right ;). I actually still have another bin, but this should be good for now. All my nails and wood screws are stored in thier boxes in workbench drawers, these will be for bolts and misc hardware items. The bins are stable when fully loaded, but I used the shelves to help pin them in place. If you stacked these cabinets directly on top of each other, make sure you bolt/pin/attach them together since they are prone to sliding. Another thing, don't go too high with these, otherwise you ahve to get a step ladder or pull the drawer out to see inside.
