Yup, either way, they are your best option, why are afraid of rodent cleanup?
He wont bother you, let him eat and be on his way!

I am betting it is just a harmless snake and he is there cleaning up your rodent problem. I would have no problems with letting him have run of the place, as long as he stays mostly hidden. The first time I reach into a cabinet for a tool and he is in there it is time for him to be relocated.

When I'm building homes in Scottsdale we're always running into rattlers, even in Colorado I've removed more then a couple rattlesnakes from garages; I never try to remove them from window wells, after a 7 foot fall, they are typically pissed off.

It's smart to know what type of snake it is before getting it riled.

Having grown up in Australia we had snakes in the workshop all the time - more often than not - venemous snakes. This was an occupational hazard in an open workshop and they kept the rats and mice away. Given the choice though, I would sort out the critters with traps and seal up the garage in order to keep them out in future.

I find BFT (Blunt force tramma) works the best. I agree though. If it's not poisonous let him be. Neve heard of snakes eating up wiring, but I heard and seen the damage rodents can do.

After seeing what rodents will do to a wiring harness, I will take the snake assuming it's non -poisonous. Got within 4' of a king snake at the edge of the woods by my trailer. He kinda let me know he was there, and I gave him a wide berth as he crawled off into a stump hole. He just eats rats and other snakes, so he's on my safe side. I'd say it's time to do some house cleaning of rats and mice, then I'd ease the snake out too, don't need help having a heart attack.

While I am certainly not a fan of snakes, they do serve good purpose. However, make sure it is not poisonous. If poisonous, then kill it. My wife is of the opinion dead snake is a good snake. I have done some relocation of non-poisonous ones out of the yard.

Agree that if you remove the food source, the snake will leave. Seal up all around your garage and keep critters and bugs from getting in.

If you know there is just one snake and can find it, make a snake catcher out of a piece of copper tubing 5'-6' long with a piece of clothesline type cord running up through the center, tied off at the scary end. Leave yourself enough slack so you can put the loop of cord over the snakes head, pull tight on the other end, and carry the snake outside away from your building. The wife just turns the Jack Russell loose on them. If it isn't poisonous the dog just kills them quickly. If the snake is poisonous then the dog just barks at it until I come over and kill it. IF I see a non poisonous snake I lock up the dog until it goes away on it's own.

Poisonous ones are no problem as long as you or your dog don't eat them, venomous ones are the ones to steer clear of!

I'd take the snake over the insects and vermin. He's welcome to come live my way. Especially if he eats f'ing squirrels, who just ate the ignition resistor wiring, MAP wiring, and vacuum lines on my Cherokee in the driveway.

I killed a 18" small rattlesnake this weekend just inside the door post to my flammable storage building. Walked by it twice before I saw him. Went and got my straight blade hoe and chopped his head off. Only a two,rattle snake so now am wondering where the mother is....

It is not always about having mice for snakes to come into a shop. On three occasions over the years that I have found a snake in the shop, I had accidently left the door open overnight, and I think they were seeking the heat of the concrete. One was inside the inverted C channel foot of my shop press, so I placed a steel block across the opening and injected starter fluid in for him to enjoy. He thrashed a bit, then got real quiet.

Be careful if you are going to kill it. It will cost you up to $1000 fine and up to a Year in Jail for killing non Venomous snakes in Georgia.

What's the difference? Honest question.
Here in Northern Ohio most of our snakes are harmless. I only say "most" because copperheads have been rumored to venture this far north on rare occasions. I can't say I've ever seen a poisonous/venomous snake here in my 50 years.
