I recently aquired a Snap-On 71-10 ratchet. The date code shows 1946. The ratchet was pretty stiff and I noticed the plate screws were pretty loose so I tightened them down and it locked the ratchet up. I pulled the ratchet apart and cleaned 65 years of dried grease, gunk and rust out of the internals (not much rust) and lubed it up confident I had the problem solved. Still the same issue. I notice one of the plate screws is not the original but still works and the same length. I notice the original screw protudes through the plate and when I back it of flush the ratchet works fine. These were a bit before my time so I'm not real familiar with them. Did these have a gasket, shim between the housing and plate? The internals appear to be in good shape other than the selector is a little loose. The ratchet doesn't appear to have any damage to the body but it has me puzzled. I would really like to get this thing in nice working order. It's built like a tank. I don't want to ship it in for repair as they would prob just send me a new Dual80 instead of repairing it and it's doubful they have repair kits for ratchets from 1946.
