They are 36 teeth and from my own extensive experiments, they run the best with Sta-Lube SL3311 grease.

Like others have stated they are 36 tooth count and a pleasure to use. Snap on I believe no longer produces them , however J.H Williams USA made ratchets are a 936 ratchet in a slightly different body. Those are a great value for a great USA made ratchet.
I have several (six in all I think) and have never really liked the action of the ratchet mechanism. I guess it always felt stiff and clunky with way to much back drag. Just today I figured what the hay, why not take one apart and see what's inside. I could not believe the length of the detent spring! No wonder it has so much back drag. So I cleaned all the parts and gave the spring a little trim (should have measured it) and put it back together. Took it apart and trimmed some more until I got a good feel. All I had on hand was some StaLube synthetic brake caliper grease so I lubed it up and gave it a try. It's like a new ratchet. I tried to make it skip or slip and it worked fine so I'm going to bring it to work tomorrow and put it through it's paces and see how it works.

That's good to know. I'm so not a fan of my flf936 its in a drawer with my retired craftsman and SK ratchets. Now that you mention it I do remember the spring being really long when I rebuilt it. Maybe I'll snip a bit off and try her again.

Yes they are 36 tooth I believe came out around the time of soft grips ratchets and the last of the USA stamps on the heads (a few early dual 80 had them) now always on handle

Forget about what I said about the Sta-Lube grease. They changed the formulation. It's not the same stuff anymore. Use the official Superlube.
I have been using my modified SO ratchet this week and I really like the ratchet action now. I will be doing this mod to all my 36 tooth SnapOn ratchets. For the life of me I can't understand why they made there ratchets so stiff. I agree the stiff spring would prevent the ratchet from slipping but there has to be a happy medium. What is the consensus on these ratchets Do people like them the way they come or am I just too picky?

I'm assuming they made the spring stiff to account for wear between the pawl and the gear. I'm assuming the back drag gets less as the parts wear. I've never worn a 936 out, so I don't know what they feel like when they're well worn.
