Supplying tools is their business. Of course they can help it.

But there are probably good reasons, as noted by others, why they choose not to. High inventory and working capital levels make a company less nimble and less able to invest. It probably makes good sense to campaign production every so often rather than keep everything in stock.

***** if one gets in the queue at the wrong point on the production wheel, of course. But in many ways this could be a sign of a well-understood supply chain. 'Course, it could be just the opposite, too -- we don't have enough info to know.

Right, but OP didn't go through Snap-On's normal supply chain.

If he's located in an area with a reasonable heavy industry presence, one or more of his local Snap-On drivers likely has the set on his truck. ***** for OP either way, all I'm saying is that if you're ordering something low volume you can't always plan for it to be there in 2 days.

I'm kind of peeved off with snap-on. I ordered a 3/4" general service set that retails at $1300 over a month ago. Last time I talked to them I was told that they would be shipping out by the end of this month. I called customer service today to make sure they were still on schedule and now I'm being told that they MIGHT ship out right around the second week of July. I ordered it on the 21st of last month. Is it just me or is snap-on waaaay to expensive to make you wait almost 2 months for a $1300 tool set??

Takes me about 30 minutes to go get a tool I need but...what do I know. Maybe buy it off the truck or from another truck company; probably not a "usual" policy for snap on but I can't see a professional that would tolerate twiddling their fingers waiting that long, even the mail in part.

It's a hollow setup, snap on needs to get stores or some sort of regional distribution/warranty setup (or change the agreement they have with their driver licensees so they can get stock sooner or replace stock sooner).

If you buy from a driver it's not an issue... The website doesn't get priority over their drivers.

Do you really think the CS rep that you or your driver would talk to has the set in stone ship date? Nah they look at a computer it may say 7/7/14 today, but tomorrow they look and it may say 7/21/14 it's not like they are going to talk to head of production on that actual product and know for sure, they are simply passing along the info that they have at that contact time.

Man wright, proto, armstrong all the industrial brands could have you a set over night.. Wright is about 1/2 the price to..

No way I would wait for snappy for a 3/4 set..

Snap-on has 4 regional distribution centers throughout the country. It wouldn't make any difference if they had 50. It wouldn't change the fact that a 3/4 drive chrome set is a VERY low volume selling item. Low volume sellers are usually at the bottom of the list when it comes to manufacturing priorities. It would be a totally different story if the OP was waiting on a 1/4 drive general service set.

Oh I agree. I bought a lot more than just that. Once my matco box comes and I start putting it in the drawers I'll be posting pictures of everything

My ct661 was on backorder for 6 months, buying online from snap on and they kept pushing the date back. But it was worth the wait.

I dunno man, what do people do during the wait? Turn bolts with their teeth?

I'm being facetious but I mean if you need something that kind of wait is just prohibitive you end up buying a cheap temporary replacement anyway if you need it which probably gets the job done which might mean it's not worth it.

They should just keep stock in house (beyond what they have) they need it anyway for warranty purposes. They don't really run a commodity business so it's not like their stuff goes bad. They're just being cheap in production and/or their projections are bad.

The new trend is "just-in-time" manufacturing... this is where a product is delivered from production the to the distribution center and send out all within very short period of time - in an ideal situation it would all happen in the same day - with this way of doing things there is no "in-stock" inventory. What this does is it reduces overhead, handleing and warehousing cost. To you and me it makes no sense at all, but for a company set on getting every nickle and dime out of a product it saves them money... although I don't see that cost savings being pasted onto the end customer.

I sure hope that's not what Snap-On is trying to do here. If it is they need to figure it out, lol.

I find this situation humorous. I placed my order with Snap-On. They back ordered this ratchet set. I placed an order with Matco a month later. Matco back ordered my toolbox. After 2 weeks of being back ordered, Matco sent out my box. It sat in the freight guy's warehouse for 3 days before I called him asking whats going on and he offered to deliver it later that week. It got here and Matco missed one drawer liner. I called their customer service line and I've got another liner coming to me. I'll be laughing when my liner from Matco gets here before the snap-on order.

I was following up once a month on my 6 month ct661 on back order and the last month I asked if it could be changed to green.... I think they would have changed it but they said they don't make a green one. I would have thought I would have been compensated in some other way, they were well aware of the long wait.... But I didn't complain, so maybe that's why.

That's a crazy wait! And to think you could walk in to pretty much any lumber or big box store and buy a milwaukee fuel.

Called them and they apologized profusely. They said the ratchet is in the line up to be made in the next few months. The guys said he was very sorry.

So I asked him...Sorry enough to give me a 1/4 dual 80 for the same price as the williams?

he said...No, No that sorry.

Times sure have changed. Tool companies that can't supply tools? The members here can supply them with some stock.

I waited about 6 months for a warranty replacement. It wasn't an immediate need so I didn't ask the dealer what took so long. One customer on the route said the dealer's account was screwed up, so, who knows.

I ordered a set of 1/4" drive Williams metric sockets (USA manufactured) from a very large Snap-on Industrial dealer three weeks ago. The sales manager told me to expect a 4-6 week wait minimum. He also told me that Snap-on has really been pushing the just-in-time inventory stuff and they are not very good at it.

UPS man is coming today with my backordered 1/4" drive Williams metric sockets. :D Guess that makes it about 8 weeks.

Last year, I ordered 14 pieces of stuff. I got 2 pieces an about 10 days. A couple more about a month later. Most about 2 months after that. The last package was opened and 2 pieces were missing. I got them a couple of months later.

It's a joke.
