My FAR72B just broke. The male end the socket goes on snapped off. The ratchet still works but you can't attach a socket to it or anything. Local Snappy dealer says I can't just replace the part that broke and I need to send it in for $150 flat rate bill which I think is a little steep knowing it just needs the one little part. Dealer had NO 3/8 ratchets whatsoever (but did have a recip. saw, go figure) and laughed when I asked if he could call another dealer and see if they have one on their truck that I could buy new as a replacement. That was two weeks ago and I haven't seen the jerk since. I had a bunch of big jobs I needed the ratchet for(******, engine, etc)
Knowing what a good ratchet it is I'd like to keep it or get another one but I'm not paying that $150 or whatever Snappy wants. That's absurd.
I used a co-workers thin headed Mac ratchet but didn't like loud noise and lower power than the Snappy ratchet.
Matco gave me a "pitbull" demo to try and it's WAY more powerful than the FAR72 but the selector is hard to turn on the head. It's pretty tight and I have to use a pair of pliers to turn it. The ratchet itself is very powerful however. With the FAR72 I had to break it loose first or it will pin your hand to whatever is in the way.
The Matco ratchet has so much torque if you kinda start it first and put it on a bolt head it will just break it loose. It's just as nasty if you put your hand in it's way too. Just seems to have a lot more torque.
Also the trigger is variable which is nice.
Just saying check other options before you settle. I'm planning on picking up the Matco ratchet. Snappy is high with that rebuild price and my dealer is a ********.
Checked the Matco site and the ratchet I'm talking about is their heavy duty model. Puts out 130 lbs. torque max.
