Snap-on FHF936 Question

I was at a police auction over the weekend and purchased a "bag of burglar tools". It was a black backpack full of tools. Inside was a Snap-on FHF936, a couple of Mac screw drivers, 2 large pair of ViceGrip branded pliers. There were also a couple of beat up crappy Craftsman clear handle screw drivers. Some Stanley Screw dirvers, a cheap hammer, utility knife and an AmPro branded folding knife that holds utility blades. Hey at least for the most part the theif had good taste in tools LOL. And for the $20 bid I won with I'm not complaining either way..

Anyway the FHF936 was a bit gritty feeling so I took it apart for a good clean/relube and noticed that one of the pawl teeth is partially sheared.

I don't want to go taking advantage of the warranty considering how I came about obtaining this. I'm just wondering, would Snap-on sell me the head for that ratchet that takes the Dual 80 gear? Of if I called and was honest with them would they at least sell me a 36tooth rebuild kit (hopefully without it costing a fotune)? The rathcet istelf is clean and nice looking even the comfort grip handle. The gritty feeling was the shaving of the pawl tooth grinding around in there.

As far as I know SO doesn't sell the Dual 80 3/8" drive ratchet head by itself--but you can buy the Dual 80 1/2" drive ratchet head. The ratchet repair kits are at the moment $10 for almost every SO ratchet--even my 3/4" drive ratchet that I bought the kit for just in case. The only ratchet kit i have seen more expensive is the magnetic bit ratchet and that is $10.50! You can get the kits on the website or a SO truck if you have one available.

I just picked up a f720 from a pawn shop for cheap that needed a rebuild. Called customer service and said I needed a rebuild kit. They asked "is this a ratchet you purchased from us"... "no" and they sent out a rebuild kit for $6.60 that I recieved 2 days later. They were really good to deal with.

Thanks guys!!

I went to order the repair kit and a few other things online. The website told me that all 4 items I wanted to order were not in stock. So I called to find out how long it would take to get everything and was told they had it all in stock. My order will ship today!

That particular ratchet doesn't need the SPP744. It's not a loose ball bearing it's actually attached to the spring. However I did order 3 of the SPP744 just to have on hand for other rathcets I have (Which includes the one I'll inevetably loose and the one that one of my buddies is sure to abscond with) Plus a catalog and a screw driver to fill out a partial set I have.

Had every item not shown up as "Out of stock" on the web site I might have gotten even more carried away, but after entering 4 items I gave up and just decided to call to see if they actually had any of this stuff.

I'm still kind of kicking myself for not looking at the pick sets before calling. I really could use a good pick set..

You still need the tool to push the ball tip and the spring into the hole until you get the pawl set in place. And with that model, you have to align the selector lever with the D-slot in the pawl while you're holding the spring compressed in the hole. That tool is a necessity; I bought 10 the last time I ordered them.
