The Snap-on Heritage boxes seem to be their "budget" line of boxes. Are the boxes quality enough to use in a professional heavy duty mechanics shop? I am collecting information before my purchase withing the next few months, thanks for any input

**I am looking at the KRA5311**

it's all depends on how you take care of it, and yes.

I have that tool box, it's not a big box (width wise).

KRA's are good boxes. For whatever reason, they seem to be a dirty word on this site with everybody creaming themself over $8,000 KRLs for $1,500 on CL or horror freight tin cans. Not everybody needs a 30" box. Nice thing is they have the same warranty as the larger ones. I had a 4107/ 4114 combo and had 0 issuse with it in the five years I had it. Should have kept.

IMO, Yes, if it's not treated like ****. We have one that I think may be that exact box that we acquired used from our SO dealer for a spare in the shop which my helper has been working out of for a few years. Granted, he doesn't have a lot - just the basic's so far - but it works fine.

i take very good care of my tools and tool boxes. Do any of the drawers have double slides or the option to buy them and add them?

Does anybody own the box and have pictures of it in their garage or shop?

Nothing wrong with KRA series they are very well made.

If you are training as a diesel tech is there a chance you will be going on field service? If so I would take a look at a KRA 62C Road Chest!

Every SO box is a high quality box. Too many snobs on this forum. You should specify that you only want answers from people who use it every day at work, otherwise you will get the snobby responses from people who don't have a spec of grease on their tools.

Most guys at my shop are working out of KRA boxes, which includes the Classic line, and have had them for years upon years with no issues. You will be happy with that box.

At this time I am just looking for a shop box and maybe a roller cart, such as the KRSC46 and then get a road chest, the road chest cost almost as much as a heritage series box, and more than some of them :shocking:

The Heritage line is a well built box for a good price. A few guys at school have them, I would say the quality is on par with their "Classic" line of boxes. Heritage is built in Canada and Classic/KRL/Epiq are built in the USA IIRC.

The only problem with the Heritage boxes is that they arent deep enough IMO. If you can afford it, I would upgrade to a Classic KRA2422 so you get a box thats a full 24" deep and 2 full width drawers

yeah, mine is made in Canada.

buy KRA, if you have lots of tools.

I can fit two 10-24mm wrench sets, but that's about it. you can put some individual wrench around it.

But overall I like mine, suit for my need. 5" deep top drawer is my favorite.

Any drawer 4" or deeper, double slides can be added. I don't think they will be needed. My old box which was 40" wide with full width drawers. I bought my box in 2000 when the slides were rated at 90 pounds, newer ones are 125 lbs. The box was maxed out when I traded it and all the drawers handled the weight fine. The width of the drawers is what makes the box, Those wide drawers will shallow alot.

Another yes vote.

I worked out of two Heritage stacks for years, 26" and 40" and they were both excellent. I think you'll find that most guys who actually used them liked them.

SO owns the plant in Canada. Though I am not 100% sure these are made in Canada anymore, I thought SO closed it and moved all operations to their US plant.

Were made in Canada by SO Canada, now in Iowa. They are called heritage boxes because they are the direct line of boxes made going back to the 50's, long before KR's and KRL's.

Another excellent line by SO. I just got a killer deal on a 2422 for my house. I have a KRL722 for my job, but the 2422 is right up there.

Ive been looking at them as well. I can get the pictured box on the student program for $1,341 vs $3,080 on the website. My 15 year old craftsman box is due for some relief/upgrade. I have it so packed the drawer slides are failing. If I could find a KRL on CL for $1,500 or so I would ****** it up, but no luck so far...

Unless your a KRL snob, the KRA boxes are just fine. They may lack the depth of the KRLs,and they don't have the SS trim for flash, but they are a quality and durable box.
I've had zero problems in 5 years of daily professional use from my 4107/4114 combo.

Do you happen to know how deep the drawers themselves are?

That's what I have! Excellent set up if you ask me. I keep my less used tools in there, so I'm not directly working out of it all the time.

As for withstanding heavy daily use. Mine was used in a Caterpillar Equipment shop for over 10 years... I recently warrantied all the slides and shocks for the top lid. They were all completely trashed! with all the moving parts replaced, Its just as good as a brand new box. It's not pretty, but it works the same.
Buy used.

The box itself is a click over 19" deep and drawers are 17" or so. Basically the same as a craftsman rollaway. The nice thing is the top boxes are the same depth and drawers are interchangeable with the bottom.

Are you gonna be doing a coop as a student? Or just going to work? In the hd truck industry, plan on needing alot of tools. I had a craftsman 40", top, middle and bottom. I ran out of room in like 4 months. Then had a tripple stack crafstman 26" as a catch all, maxed that out and had stuff in travel boxes under my work bench.

I'm not saying run out and buy an epiq, but a 24" deep drawer is nice.... hell a 29/30" drawer is nicer. I'm rockin a classic 78 at home and I like it. Mine is older with only one top drawer. No matter what box you chose, make sure to save some cash for different wrench racks, socket trays and "junk trays." Huge space savers.

And ya know.... now that I think about it, what is the deal with people thinking that if you work in the field your box is getting a daily lashing? besides being opened a few more times a day then my home box It doesn't really get beat up... It's not like I show up to work... Flog my box a few times, slam a couple of drawers and start my day. So i guess I can and can't under stand the how does this or that box hold up to professional use threads. Any box will hold up if you respect it, don't over fill it and take care of it.

The KRA 62C is well worth the money it is built like a tank and holds a large amount of tools. In my opinion one of the best boxes Snap On has made.

Another option is to look on Kijiji and look for an older Snap On top and bottom with maybe a middle section. I am a great believer on spending your money on the tools which will earn your wages. The box or roll cab does not!

I do believe that the older KRA's seem better made? I have my original KRA58 and that was made in 1979 and is such a lovely box.

At this time I am just looking for a shop box and maybe a roller cart, such as the KRSC46 and then get a road chest, the road chest cost almost as much as a heritage series box, and more than some of them :shocking:
