What is the differences. I can't seem to find any, and there is a pretty drastic price difference for me (student discount). Is it pretty much a buy whichever is cheaper? Thanks

Heritage is 20 inches deep, classic is 24 inches deep. Much more storage in the classic. Weight capacity, more accessories, more desirable drawer configuration, more colors, etc. get a classic.

Heritages are 18" deep, Classics are 21". Masters are 26" and Epiqs are 30" (drawer depth, the dimensions of the box frame is not very important)

Buy the most expensive box you can afford, you will run out of room very soon, unless you work in a dealership that only service one brand.

Funny that you say, Ill be starting in a few weeks at a ford dealership. Basically I can get a heritage for $800 cheaper then a classic. The biggest box I can even get with my discount is a double bay too otherwise I would go triple.

Classics are 24" deep, not 21". Master can be had in 24" or 29" deep variants.

No it is not. The box is 24" deep, but usable drawer depth is only 21".

4 digit Masters are 26" deep, 3 digit Masters are beefed up Classics, both at 21" deep.

For the last time, dimensions of the box frame is completely irrelevant. Nobody cares how big the boxes are, its the usable drawer space they care more about. You can always make room to fit your box but you cannot make more room in the drawer to fit your tools.

Of course drawer depth is smaller due to design. Nobody talks about or compares boxes on interior depth.
Get the classic, you will be much happier with it. Plus, school should give you a certificate allowing you to trade it in at full list price value towards a masters or epiq box when you are ready for a bigger box.

Must be a Canadian thing.

Might want to send an e-mail to Snap-On. They don't list depth of their drawers on their web site.

Ok well as far as other boxes It doesn't affect me because that isn't in my near future. All I care about is classic and heritage

Have you been in a similar situation and done that?

I own both a heritage and a classic and if I were to buy again I would get 2 heritage boxes, the heritage has held up fine, holds a ton of tools, and yet its heavier but the heritage holds more tools for less money {per space}...

How does that program work? Do they allow you a certain amount to spend that can be spent on boxes or tools, or is it x amount for a box and x amount for tools..

If its just a specific amount, then I would buy tools, as many as you can afford and all of what you will need, no air tools, just hand tools. Then I would buy a box on craigslist...

But to answer your question, I would go with the cheapest box that holds the most tools that you can afford..

Heritage and classics are the same basic cox, just different sizes. Same construction, casters and basically same slides. It really comes down to which footprint and storage capacity you need to choose which one fits your needs better. For a student, a heritage can make more sense simply because they are easier to move from school, to work, to new job, ect.

I get a discount, no allowances just a very good discount. I pretty much have all of the hand tools. I Just need a box. And as far as craigslist goes, I can get a new one for as good if not better then a used one. Weight doesn't bother me, I can't use it at school, so it will stay at my job. Sounds like I'm going to get a heritage. Thanks everyone

Just to add, Heritage is the only Snap-On box that uses a different (thinner) grade of steel for the frame if I remember right. Classic, Masters, and EPIQ are all largely identical in steel gauge.

I have had a Heritage for the last 5 years or so, and it holds a tremendous amount of tools. The classics are a tad deeper, and tend to have double slides on the deep drawers. I wouldn't say no to a classic, but my heritage has done fine for the little money I have invested in it. I have a single bank bottom, top and side cabinet. Total investment, maybe $1300 and it has been an excellent box. I started with the bottom and added pieces as I needed them.

I spoke with a snap on rep, and of course he said spend the extra money for a classic. However, he made a point. The classic has an extra full length drawer, which would be ideal for me, making first drawer all sockets ratchets etc and next full length drawer for all wrenches.

For the student discount, Classic 96. Use the certificate to upgrade in the future- it's a pretty good deal, you buy the box at student discount price and get to apply the full normal retail price of the box to another S/O box when you upgrade.

I have a 40" Classic series single bay box. It holds up. Not as nice as a KRL or Epiq but still pretty sweet.

I have the Heritage KRA 4107B 7 drawer roll cab with the 4 drawer KRA 4114A top chest. They were bolted together as a set. Both boxes say made in Canada. This is my first new to me Snap-on. My other boxes are the old wrinkle brown Kennedy friction slides. I ordered a handle/4bolts $18 and a new set of ball bearing slides for the bottom drawer $33 off the SO website three days ago and they arrived today. The new slides are upgraded with more ball bearings.

FYI: The factory drawer liners measure exactly 34 1/2" x 17 1/2"
