So is it a good deal or no? The guy said he bought it to put his "specialty" tools in but decided he wanted one big box for everything and bought a macsimizer.

That's the box I have (just mine says cat on it) . It's a good one and will work and sounds like a good price. It will hold a good amount of tools and is better than the DIY grade boxes from Sears/HF/HD and so on
Offer like $100 or so less, and see if he'll take it.
You can usually never go wrong buying tool boxes. Even if in the near future, you decide to get something better and bigger, you can always relegate that one to your 2nd box or take it home and use it in your garage for your home set of tools.

Well bit the bullet and picked up the snap on roll cart today. $800 through the school. Gonna go get the tools tomorrow. Thanks again for the help guys.

The guy sold it before I could go look at it. So I got the cart. The cart is actually bigger than the box. Yeah I can't really expand the cart. But I like it and it will get me through college. I will get a box before college is over with my discount. But for now the cart was a great deal imo.

Now I just gotta decide on the tools lol. I can either get snap on or for $9 less I can get Mac. I get a few more sockets (like 5-10) and wrenches (also like 5-10) with Mac. But I get better ratchets with snap on (80 tooth vs 30-45). Or I could go craftsman but I don't think I will.
I'd go with the Snap-Ons, personally. Probably better quality, and the resale value will be higher if you ever decide to jump ship and go to a different brand. So this is a pre-determined basic set of student tools? Have a list of what's included?
You will enjoy the cart. When you get a bigger box, the cart will still be useful.

truth, snap on resale is WAY higher than all other brands, Mac and matco is 25-30% snap on is 50-125%

Krsc46 and thank you! Also guys I'm getting a 1/2" air drill with Mac if I go with them... So 10 ish more wrenches and sockets. And a 200 drill for $9 cheaper. Is this enough to sway to Mac over snap on?

Alright guys. I'm glad you are here to help. Because I was thinking of quantity.
Why do you need all mac or snap on? Get a mix? Some things you will like over the other. For example i like the expert impact sockets that mac sells of my snap on. Much cheaper, by about half and ive noticed. The the square doesn't mushroom out as easy as the snap on sockets

If I am going to pay truck money for tools I tend to sway towards Snap On. They tend to have the edge for most hand tools.
I would not worry about quantity so much
Right now get what is on the minimum list and add to it as you figure out what you need. Remember you have several months in school to take advantage of the discounts.

I only have a week left before classes start and it's not enough time to put together a mix of things. So I'm just sticking with one straight brand for now. I will mix and match as I go but I waited too long to mix right now.
Both lists are full of fluff. MAC is just fine for wrenches and sockets (both impact and chrome) but their list is antiquated like it hasn't been updated in a very long time.
Example, the screwdrivers are the old hard handles, some people like them but now they have their mac grip/Duratek models out so why not offer them? Same for the ratchets, they have new 90 tooth models but are pushing the ancient 30 tooth models to you. 1/2 impact is also a rebadged 231HA. That 231 in particular is kind of a joke. It was modern in 1990 and these days they make them in China since the North American IR factories have long since moved on. They should be offering the AWP038, AWP050, new screwdrivers and new ratchets, then that list would look a bit better. Someone needs to fix that list to stay "competitive".

Actually no I can't lol. They told me I was getting snap on brand impact and air ratchet but they gave me blue point. I paid for snap on and the boxes I got have bluep point stuff. I'm not very happy. So back to the school tomorrow I go to complain. If they won't give me what I paid for I will go with Mac just because this bothers me. It's snap ons fault as much and the school. Snap on puts this together and makes up the price list. The school just sells it. So I'm not the happiest.
Blue Point is their value line, but if the list said SO, you deserve to get Snap-On, I agree. That *****. If they can't get you a SO impact/ratchet, maybe they can knock $200 or so off what you owe?
I'd still keep the SO tools though. I wonder if the school's at fault for not updating the list? SO may have sent them BP impacts/ratchets at a lower price, and the school just kept the prices the same?

The difference is price is about 250 between the blue point and snap on. It just bothers me they did this. I paid for the snap on stuff. That's what the list said and that's not what I got.

Yes it did. Which the blue point one will do 550 ft lbs of torque and the SO will do 800. So that's a difference. And the 1/4" air ratchet is better as well. I'm just mad they made me pay for it
They probably figure only a small percentage of students will notice/care/mention about the substitution.

That's exactly what I thought jd. Kids will read the list once and be like ok I'll buy through them. Then they get it and don't even care. But I read through the list a million times and wanted snap on stuff. The good stuff. That's why I bought it. I didn't buy it for blue point stuff, especially when the list says snap on stuff. And they didn't charge me less. They charged me the full price.

So the lady at the college said there was nothing she could do. Snap on offers blue point pieces as "substitutes" when there's are out of stock. she would refund the difference or anything so.... I am now the owner of Mac tools. I got so irritated with it that I realized I didn't want my 4,000 to go to snap on right now. I was never told about the possibility of there cheaper stuff. Let alone having to pay more than the actually price of the stuff. And everything in my Mac stuff is nice Mac stuff. Other than the safety glasses lol. Also, I got macs better half inch impact. The 050 impact.

They will be fine. Maybe buy their new ratchets separate and add on. I have a few Mac tools and they have been fine. Their sockets and wrenches are just as nice as Snap On. Their screwdrivers are just as good to. I actually want the red hard handle drivers.

Honestly after holding each and seeing it all. I'm perfectly happy with Mac. As of now I'm happier than with snap on. Just bothers me they sneak that stuff in and not tell anyone or refund it. i will be getting better ratchets eventually. Either snap on 80's or Mac makes a 90 tooth I believe. I get them probably around Christmas time with my discount
You will be happy with the krsc 46, mine is about 5 years old. Loaded to the hilt. Heavy as heck. Pro use, runs like the day I got it. I roll it around all day. I open the drawers all day. My strictly tool boxes combo is showing some real wear. It's about 6 years old. I don't load that one as heavy or open any drawers near as much. I still say strictly toolboxes stuff is better than hf.......I still say a cheap snap on is better than either. I just can't afford a bigger snap on box to replace my 56 combo. I don't make enough money to justify it.
My krsc 46 gets dinged up being my mobile cart.........I hate that, but sometimes a person drops things, sockets fly off the gun, and hit the cart......*****, but I don't regret getting it. I had a cheaper 4 drawer cart that only held a fraction of the snap on cart, and it only lasted 6 months. I don't regret buying my strictly toolboxes combo either......it was the best deal for the most space at the time......but it does not hold up as well as a snap on box for sure.
