I sure do like your box. I have the same exact one with the top. My top has the full size drawer for like all of the sockets. I also picked up last year the matching full sized side cab. Very rare, I looked for 12 years to find one in good shape. I paid 1,500 for it though. Sorry no pics, trying to get new camera set up, but will send you some when all set up.

Ahh the 70th Anniversary KR1000 Box. That's a keeper! Those were the first in the SO series of truely monster boxes and 20 some years later are still unbeatable.

Sublime my man

Mine has the matching top and side boxes

I'll grab a couple a photos in the morning. Mine are not the Anniversary set however. It's the KR1000A, KR1100 and correct side box (I 've got to check the number) Purchased in 1988.

Wow yout set up how long has that collection been going

i am only 20 years old so you tell me :bounce::bounce::bounce::bounce:

been buying tools since i was 12ish. in 6th grade i got a snap on top and bottom toolbox off the snappy truck then just this past fall i got the kr1000.

i thought it would be fun to show how the tools are layed out because everyones setup varies. we bounce ideas off one another.

lets start up a KR-1000 club

I got mine from a retired shop forman with all his tools for 4700
But it came with at least 10grand worth of tools mostly snap on

I really like mine being a 70th anniversary box it stands out more
To me but other than the logos its just a kr1000.

The drawers slide real sweet and it holds an amazing amount of tools for a double bay
The spring wheels roll nice even with a lot of weight in the box ill post some pics of how I've got my tools laid out when I get to work

These boxes were the first ever with ball bearing drawers. I would get so pissed off when someone would slam a drawer shut on my box still do. Sorry about the crappy/messy pic space is real tight at the moment. I'm in the middle of a cross country move as well. I feel sorry for the guys that will be moving this later this month. :lol_hitti

The top chest is a KR1100 the side is a KR1010. I purchased all of these new in 1988. I have a price list around here somewhere from 88 that has all the numbers you're looking for. Since I was buying it all at once I got a pretty good deal. I also traded in a KR562 Taco Cart and KR550 top box so that saved me some more out of pocket. I'll find the price list hopefully in a few days and post. Off the top of my head it was like 4K bottom, 1750 top and 1200 side keep in mind these were 1988 dollars and included a discount. With my trade I paid about half that. I considered selling them instead of moving them but the replacement cost would not justify it.

what i like best about my kr1000 is the size of the drawers, how well the drawers slide with all that weight, double bank, large work surface, nice drawer layout.

what i don't like, the handle on the side is very stupid looking and non removeable, the secret compartment is pointless, the lock sometimes works (have to slam the drawers for them to catch sometimes), the retainer humps have all broken off (that small nudge pushing the drawer shut gives a secure feeling the drawer is closed all the way). another bad thing is the drawers cannot be configured differently.

very rock solid. it took me and my dad and the person we bought it from to push it up a trailer ramp onto the trailer. its really heavy. a morter going off next to it would not have any effect on the toolbox.

Agree But you can work around that very rock solid. it took me and my dad and the person we bought it from to push it up a trailer ramp onto the trailer. its really heavy. a morter going off next to it would not have any effect on the toolbox.

See comments in red also there are provisions (pre drilled holes) to bolt the top and bottom boxes together. I had to drill two holes to bolt on the side cab.

I really like the idea of a KR1000 appreciation thread!

Doesn't Snap-on warranty the drawer slides?? Would they replace the retainer humps? My kr1000b also has this problem with many of the drawers.

You can get the bump stops free from either Snap-On or Accuride. I got them from both people, :bounce:

Didn't know Accuride was shipping them, and Snap-On sent me some, so I ended up with almost twice as many as I needed. They paid shipping.

And slides are warranty items, though you will have to probably call Snap-On.
They sent me all new slides for my KR1100, but my KR1000 the slides are all original and working fine.

Love my KR1000 and my KR1100, but the long drawer in the KR1100 is really not intended for much weight. Handles my screwdrivers OK, but you wouldn't want to put sockets, etc. in there. The 48 inch drawer is prone to dragging, even with new slides.
Of all my boxes the KR1000 is my favorite for sure.

Oh, and the handle comes right off, I'm confused by those posts. I have to take the handles off all my boxes because I have them jammed so tight there is no room.

So is there a way to reconfigure the drawers? that's the only thing I do not like about the KR1000 I have. Would love to have my deeper socket tray up top.

drawers cannot be configured in different patterns like the KRL series boxes after this box.

you can move around same size drawers (some of the drawers have built in dividers) so it can better suit your tool display. you can clearly see the dividers i am talking about in my 3/8" drive drawer, pliers drawer, red tool cases drawer

Huh, none of my drawers have dividers like that....it's a KR1000 I bought used, guess I'm missing them.

My KR1100 is from 1987. Date on the back. What year is yours from?

Mine never had much in the long drawer.

It drags at about 20 lbs.

Some came with a center 'stabilizer' according to SnapOn tech support.
That's also mentioned on their site.

Mine did not come with this stabilizer. Nor have the other two I've looked at since I bought mine a few years ago.

I suspect yours has the stabilizer.
You can no longer get the stabilizer if it goes bad.
It's supposed to go in the center, according, again, to SnapOn tech guy.

Every once in awhile ill pull almost everything out on a day over clean it and rearrange just to see what it feels like. If i like the layout ill keep it if not i go back, some stuff just fits better in a different drawer.
