I like buying the sizes you need not the whole set.
Snap-on prices their sets, at least at retail, for close to the prices onesie twosie.

I try to find as much as I can at garage/estate sales… then, occasionally, I fill in sets off the truck when one is on a job site that I’m on.

Really, I rarely do that. I don’t really care if my sets match. Very few of my sets are the same brand from end to end.

Snap-on flare nut wrench sets are an exception. I believe that they are worth it. I bought my flare nut wrench sets off the truck.

I don't see why a choice between the two needs to be made.

GET BOTH.

Sometimes you want/need to have an open-end flank drive AND the line wrench end at your disposal. Best to get this all in a single wrench to minimize how many tools you bring with you.

Other times you only want/need line wrenches, no need for open ended wrenches.

Getting both is a no brainer.
Get two of each just in case you got to hold down one side with the same size flare nut as the other. It’s only money 😂
