How many idiots get jazzed by the supposed “brand name” sweater? I bet a fair amount do, especially when it is cold out. Cost to them for the sweater? $10.00 USD I’m sure. Good marketing scheme but they are preying on the uneducated. I say this as someone who does own some Snap On but I bought it depreciated and second hand.

As a business owner who has spent about$30k with snap on over the last 6 years resulting in accumulating lots of promo freebies, I do enjoy being called and "idiot" and "uneducated". At least I'm a warm uneducated idiot:thumbup:

This made me laugh. Here, here.

It sounds like you worked the system to the best advantage possible so maybe you are just warm and not an idiot.

P.S. That being said, you are in the minority.

They are a really good tool company that provides financing and convenience to those that want or need instant gratification and are willing to pay for it.

They make far more profit off the financing they offer than the tools. The other poster who asserted that they are a finance company that happens to sell tools was correct. Nothing against Snap-On. I am an owner. But not jazzed up on all of the Kool-Aid.

At this point I would happy if a Snap On truck would honor us with a stop once in awhile, maybe even a drive by.

Too much truth here to think about. We have 2 colleges locally that offer auto and diesel programs, used to be, last time I took a college auto program, the SO truck would make their cursory monthly check in and say hey howdy... now you can see the cobwebs. Now you can't even find the SEP rep's contact info, let alone see a regular truck. Ever.

Either the truck rep is too busy chasing delinquent payments, he's stretched out way too think over a territory, or he can't be bothered with we mere "students".

Meanwhile, the students are gettng Chinesium Harbor Freight, not just because it's cheaper, but the SO guy who could cut into that is nowhere to be found. And the "loyal" following that they used to court from school on will be loyal to the import tool house... not them.

Inflation is a thing...

$100 in 1980 is the equivalent of $330 today.

That's why I signed up for the student program - taking that inflation into account, it's actually the same (or sometimes cheaper) for me to buy SO through the student program than it was to buy my original craftsman set up back in the 70's.

I didn't back then, but part of the reason I started taking shop post-retirement (other than to relearn stuff I forgot and learn how tech has changed in 35 years) was access to the various discount programs.

But the second half of your comment is more true than the blade on a new plane... when my brother restarted HIS life he got a lot of my original C'Man tools as a leg up. The ones I still have - like my 3/4" drive stuff, the dial calpipers, etc - that I didn't need to replace are still my go-to's.

Take care of your tools, and they never let you down.

I havent even seen a snapon guy at the shop in 2+ years. Stops in the parking lot for all of 5 minutes if you're lucky enough to catch him. Cant be bothered to come inside. I am not familiar with that sales tactic. I thought "hard to get" had a different application.

My only truck guy was Chadster1 on here. I'm not a tech, by the way. I'd call and he'd stop by the fire station on his way home. Great guy but he gave it up. Now I just use the website if I need something.

The whole finance company vs tool company gets parroted here often.

Reality is that their 2018 clearly shows:

Operating earnings before financial services $726,000,000

Operating earnings from financial services $230,100,000

Looks like that financial company actually pretty good at selling tools.

Well if you use your hands for a living then according to plenty on here you are a uneducated idiot, also if its auto related then also a thief. Like you I have bought lots of SO tools and had plenty of their promo things given to me, hell last year I got a free jacket not buying anything but earlier had bought stuff I needed so he offered it to me.

It's funny, no sad the bashing on here anytime someone chooses to spend THEIR money buying SO. I guess I could shop HF and get their free **** that's so cheap it will break first time you use it.

It goes without saying that the quality of your tool truck experience is directly related to the quality of the rep in your area, and the relationship you have with said rep.

The rep is probably not allowed to visit the students. There is a technical school down the street from my work. I asked my rep if he goes there too. "No, I wish. Snap on won't let me. That's handled by a corporate guy, like an industrial rep." was his answer.

But are they good at selling tools because they are able to finance? I am certain that $726m would dwindle some if all their customers paid cash or used their own CC. Take a 10pc metric wrench set (OEXM710), how many are willing to pay $388 cash vs how many are willing to put $50 down?

Don't get me wrong, I love truck tools and for the most part Snap-on is my favorite but I try to sell a few tools here and there and most people will not pay a premium in one lump sum.

So, the Snap On Flyer thread has become the Bash Snap On thread?

I shouldn't buy the tools I like to use, because someone else says they are too expensive?
Have I consumed Kool Aid?

So none of these HF shoppers drive anything but 1986 Yugos? Well, they get the job done, and they don't cost anywhere near a NICE car.

Does anyone have info on the Snap On Flyers?

Please read the above with a humorous tone.

Almost all SO here, but I'm on my way to HF for some things... :)

I've tried to buy a few tools in the last few months with cash but none of the dealers in our shop offer a cash discount except the matco guy. Usually I just buy my Snap On stuff on Ebay since its cheaper.

I know my SO guys route. So if I need anything it is just a few minutes away. He gives me great deals. Plus, I get all the promos. He will drop by the house to check out my projects and drop off my orders.
He had both of those metal rolling seats shaped like a tool truck, one with drawers and one with a flip lid. He gave me both of them. One was loaded with other promos.
