I have the same issue with my Snap-on stuff around the farm. There really isn't a "finish" on the pliers. Best thing to do is not clean them, wipe the junk off but don't go all out getting them wiped spotless. Or rub them with oil after a good cleaning. In my case even with some minor corrosion going on here and there, they still work exactly as they should and would be warrantied immediately if they ceased to do the job anymore.

Pretty much all pliers will have little finish on them (light oil, thin polyurethane), so it's not really a Snap-on only concern. Very few are chrome plated anymore. Best bet is to scrub them clean with whatever abrasive is handy, a wire wheel works good. Then use a light oil and/or use them.
The annoying part is the laser etched markings tend to disappear.

I use the maroon colored pad on the bottom of the stack in the picture. Follow the same grain direction that's in the pliers. Does a beautiful job. Makes it look factory.

one of the gripes I have about Snap on pliers. carrying them on my service truck makes them false rust in seconds.

Since the laser etching replaced stamped numbers, only a matter of a year or two before you can't make out the brand of tool, and there goes your warranty...

Hell, even the ones in my climate control garage rust. It makes me sick the amount of money Ive spent on snap on **** that rusts... yet all my knipex look new after a decade? hmmmmm

My Knipex and S-o pliers rust just the same. Just some light surface corrosion.

Mine are the same way, most my pliers are knipex, some princess auto, some rice-grip, some, schmitz. None have rusted like my one pair of snap-on wire strippers/crimpers.

I carry knipex and klein on my service truck. I'm in the north so there is condensation. they haven't rusted in 15+ years of use. my brand new snap on stuff in my own climate controlled garage? more than light rust from just looking at them wrong.

i'm actually thinking about selling them while the numbers can still be legible and replacing them with knipex. the only pair of knipex that have any hint of surface rust is the pair I carry in my pocket daily and sees sweat, water from plumbing duties, etc and still look almost new. I don't get it. We pay a premium for quality tools and the stuff doesn't even last a month without rusting. I shouldn't have to clear coat the damn things....
