I have been on the fence about dropping a bit of money on some snap-on I have been wanting for awhile now. Yesterday I decided to pull the trigger on them. I went to the website to get them and noticed almost all their prices had went up over night anywhere from $5 to $20 depending on the item. Anyone know about this?

I have noticed in the past few years that everything they have goes up like 15-20% annually at least. I do like snap on tools but ********, they really need to realize that we arent a bunch of millionaires. I suppose I have always been true to the brand, but a lot of this **** is just getting ridiculous. I feel bad that it affects the dealer but Im about ready to be done buying anything off of a truck. Id like to also know why tools are the same price direct from the factory. I was always told that the price had the "service" included. Meaning it was paying for your dealer to be driving around/warranting tools. If you have no dealer and are ordering direct what are you paying for? Maybe I am mixed up on this but it just doesnt make sense. I love my snap on tools, but I am sick of having a tool bill. (my own fault)

They have the same price direct in order to protect their dealers. If I were a dealer and found that they sold tools direct cheaper than I could sell tools I'd be very, very pissed off.

I thought I was the only one who noticed this. It seems whenever I voice my opinion regarding this, I might as well be talking to a brick wall. However, in cases like this, I would suggest just buying used. The irony is that Snap-on is marketed towards the "professional" mechanic, but most can't even afford the damn tools.

Like someone else said, they have to protect the dealers. The business is based on financing through dealers anyway, so they probably don't care much about online sales. If you don't have a dealer the price might not be worth it, but at least buying online still gets you access to the best warranty in the business.

My dealer warns me every year about a month out that the annual price increase is comming. If I'm on the fence about buying something expensive I will heed his warning. All I have left to buy is expensive stuff and there has been time stuff I was looking at was jumping $100 or more bucks.

Even if you have a dealer, how is the price worth it(not saying I'm not still buying Snap-on) when its going to be the same price on the truck and online?

Annual price increase in the spring has typically been around 3-4% , if your dealer has been increasing your prices 20% annually, something is very wrong.

Thinking now, that makes perfect sense, but even still without a dealer people are being bent over and not even getting the KY!?

I do buy a lot of used stuff to boot. I have found that in the past year I have really just taken a step back and thought about how crazy it is. I think I just need to buy off of the truck what is really hard to find at the flea market/pawn shop.

I get great service from my dealer, so I've never bought anything through the website. I'd still go through my dealer even if it was a little cheaper online. But, since most people wouldn't, Snap-on has to keep the online prices the same.

My Snappy man provides excellent service. So he'll get my future business too.

He will travel from Sweden all the way to attend the big franchise meet in Las Vegas in August. I'm already looking forward to hear about it. May have to hook him up with Mr Shaun & Chadster! ;)

But, since most people wouldn't, Snap-on has to keep the online prices the same.

I don't think it's so much of a "wouldn't" but a 'can't."

If you do not work at an industrial or professional/trade facility that has either or both a high employee count or a high $$ purchase rate, it;s likely the driver's time is not worth the stop.

It's just the 20/80 rule and most individuals or small businesses that are not tech based don't fit that.

I never took offense to that. I have access to two drivers but my third local guy who services my local mechaincs didn't feel the interest for my business even when I went to him. Thus the web site for those that can't get driver service.

As stated, price fuel and tires out these days. Heck, try to buy performance tires any more much less run flats.Wowsa.
I keep my old Tire Rack catalogs and it's fun to note the rise in prices ea. quarter they come out.

You can find 90% of what Snappy sells out there from other mfgrs.
Is it as good? Some yes, some no.

It's not like they are selling farm raised free range pink flying baby unicorns and rare virgin angel halos made of gold coated with Baby Jesus's tears with no other available sources.

Geesh. LOLOLOLOLOL

Do they at least raise your profit margin with these increases or do all the increases go to corporate ? I completely understand your cost of doing business but I am curious if YOU are raising prices as a dealer or is snapon raising their prices or both? I also agree with others that the prices you pay for truck tools are basically built in interest and "service" If you really think about it why would anyone pay $200 for a 1/2" ratchet when there are US made just as high quality ratchets available for less than $50? It is all about the "free" financing through the truck account. Don't get me wrong, I do not have any problem with people buying truck tools on credit. It does just not make any sense for someone not in a shop receiving free financing and weekly service to spend money on service they are not receiving but to each their own
