Hi guys, just wondering if anyone knows about vintage military issue tools. I have a 3/8" ratchet from 1945 marked AT8022. Fairly sure this was made by Snap On as apart from the finish and markings it is identical to my 3/8" Snap On Ferret from 1944. From what i can find out i believe it was made for an aircraft tool kit. Maybe thats what the letters AT stand for, Aircraft Tool, Aviation Tool? I think these were made for planes using the Packard built Rolls Royce Merlin engine, P-51 Mustang etc. Just wondering if anyone can confirm this or tell me anything else about it. Are these quite common over there? Sorry no photos, thanks in advance for any info. Cheers, Andy.

Hell and welcome aboard Andy can I suggest you post your question in the General Tool Discussion forum as you will capture a larger audience there.

In the meantime, enjoy..

Hi Andy. I'm curious to know if you bought that on Ebay not long ago. There was one for sale on your side of the pond. They appear to pop up in the US and UK about equal but that's speculation.

Not too much info is out there on these that I know of and you've probably seen the same stuff that I have. Snapmom had some good info in a discussion at the Collecting Snap On site.

I do have one that came from a member here. Here it is next to a later model ratchet with a similar style handle. I apologize, my old Ferrets are in another box but the ratchet in question is the same as a Ferret.

Andy: 1/2 Cup mentioned the General Tool section would be a better place to post these kind of threads which is correct because it will get a lot more eyes looking at your nice ratchets and other tools there. we also have a Vintage tools section which will work for the age of your ratchets if you want to try it there instead of just general. either is a better place than the intro thread that only gets a few members eyes seeing them.

sorry i'm not a Snap On guy so i'm not much help, but i do like their old tools designs. also when you post questions if you can always post a picture or several pictures that is usually best. if you have any questions about how the forum works just ask on your intro thread or PM one of the MODS and if you have questions after reading a thread just make a post on that thread with those questions.

good luck and again happy to have another positive member join our group

No, sorry it wasnt me. I got in a job lot of cheap broken ratchets that nobody bid on. I spotted it in the photo and was sure it was old Snap On just from the shape of the handle and head. The guy was going to throw them away if nobody bid! One mans junk and all that. I did see an old listing on ebay from a few months ago i think, maybe that is the one you mean? Went for about £25 i think.
