I've had that problem a lot when I go to look at classic cars mostly...the seller always indicates "surface rust", which turns out to be "holes so large you can fit your head through them" (mostly New Orleans, even worse post Katrina). So I do have a rule to never look at a car after dark, for obvious reasons...even though I've gotten pretty good at playing that game.

But this, being a tool box, is a little different story. Did you just hand the guy cash and throw them in the truck? Seems like a two minute inspection with a flashlight or the headlights of your new truck would have revealed these problems.

I did on the snap-on box but the slides didn't seem that bad and the body was in great shape bedsides a few dings. If it doesn't rain today i will take it out and see how bad it really is and how much work it needs. Either way for $120 it was a great price! I just didn't want another project at this time

Be careful as the snap on boxes attract more pet hair than most boxes

The craftsman box in in rough shape lot's of dings and the bottom three drawers the slides are bad. These are going to turn in to a more headache then there worth that is why the guy probably got rid of them he wanted to unload his problem onto someone else!

I am not pissed just upwet that there will need to he more work. I didn't want another project at this time.

So, we've now established that you are in fact pissed.

My question still stands, however, did you not inspect the boxes at all before you bought them? If the slides were no good I don't think showing up at any time, day or night, would prevent you from determining this. If you didn't properly inspect the box, I'd be more pissed at myself. I've had hundreds of people misrepresent items in the paper, on Ebay, on CraigsList, and various other classifieds...but that didn't prevent me from inspecting the items before buying or not buying them.

In Louisiana such transactions are subject to caveat emptor. A brief internet search (not always accurate) shows Minnesota is too.

I did inspect it and i noticed the drawers were bad but i already drove over 40 minutes to go get them so i wasn't going away empty handed. I could of maybe got him down another $20 but he had other people interested so he probably would of moved on to the next person if i tried to get him down more he already went down from $200.

I am pretty sure it is i didn't see the snap-on date code on it tho. It is built very well like a snap-on chest and you can see the outline of the snap-on emblem that was on it.

You said you still thought it was a good deal, which I think would make you happy. If you're pissed about anything in the transaction, I think it would be at yourself for making the purchase or not negotiating more favorably. I've never met a seller who didn't have somebody else interested / waiting.

Here is some pics of both boxes for you guys! The snap-on box all the slides are very nice besides the two middle drawers they are bad and i need new ones for sure. It also needs a new lock and a new emblem. I can't find a snap-on stamp anywhere on the box but it looks like one for sure it also has those locking plastic slides to lock each drawer if that helps someone id it? The craftsman box is okay the slides might be bad tho i will have to dig in better and see but it is built pretty good, I will either keep it or try to sell it if i can fix it!

Well after checking it out more i am happy about the deal. All the other slides are very nice and the body is it great shape except a few dings. Like i said i think it is a snap-on but i am not a expert on snap-on boxes so i don't know? I need to contact snap-on about new slides. lock, and emblem if they carry them and i need to know what modal it is!

The pet hair thread was stupid i agree but it is a problem of mine not on my tools so much but it getting on my tool chest mats. The stuck on rotor thread was my basically my first major job on one of my cars and i wanted help what is wrong with that? The me needed glasses thread was very stupid i agree on that but at the time i wasn't happy about it but i got over it. The i am back thread was just me telling people i was back after i was suspended on the forum for awhile how was that a stupid thread? Same with dealing with lowballers thread how was the stupid a lot of people commented on that thread and none had any problems with it? You are trying to bring up the things i did in the past i have come back to learn and you keep trying to stir stuff up again? All i have done since i have been back is show off my new tools and tool chests i have bought and contributed to this forum and nothing else!

Good read. Seems like you've been having fun. I think my favorite part was the comment about being busy ripping off some kid on craigslist. I have to say in his defense there seems to be a learning curve. This one would have gone a lot differently if he said disappointed instead of pissed.

Got some new slides and a emblem from snap-on today and am hoping to have the drawers fixed next week! I was suppose to get a whole new lock Assembly too but i didn't get it with this box so i am going to contact snap-on to see what happened.

Wow very fast reply from snap-on cs The lock will be coming in a different box. Can you guys tell me how to remove the old lock? Do i just drill it out or is there a certain way it needs to be done? Thank you for the help!

I got my new lock today. Since the first two drawers are locked shut and i don't have a key will i have to drill out the old lock to take it out? I saw how to remove the lock if the drawers were open but since mine are locked i can't take it out that way. Thank you for the help.
