I seem to remember now. The Snap-On dealer got busted for “selling” Chinese knock-offs of Snap-On screwdrivers and misrepresenting them as authentic…….there was smuggling occurring, too. Contraband was being concealed inside of the handles. So, yes, the Snap-On dealer was “busted”.

The gouges on the left are from him prying the old blade out.
The split is possibly from the newer blade being bigger in diameter and forced into the existing hole, or the handle could have gotten brittle from age, or he beat it on too hard. Lots of possibilities.
Thats a shame. That generation of soft grip is my favorite, even though they aren't chemical friendly. RIP little guy.

That happened to an ice pick I had the dealer replace the broken tip. When I got it back split handle just like yours. He turned the tang 90* off the wider part split it.

He can get you a new handle. At least he should be able too. The hard handles have a lifetime warranty the soft ones don’t. The hard handles are known for cracking so I’m not suprised it cracked when he put a new tip in. I would just have him get me a new handle or a new screwdriver to replace it. When I had a yellow handle crack I was able to get a nice blue one as a replacement. Or is this the old style soft handle? Sorry can’t tell. The end makes it look like the hard handle.

I didn’t talk to the guy. Had it replaced through a friend who owns a shop. This is an old soft grip.
It’s a soft grip. Didn’t think they made them anymore.
Others seem to have understood. Sorry it didn’t work for you.

Thanks for the reply. My favorite too. I guess I will deal with it for now. I was kinda worried it wasn’t gonna be returned good as new. Your explanation makes sense.

Hell… I’m just glad to see you still kicking, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen a post from you. In regards to your screwdriver, If he damaged it while pulling and/or reinstalling the new blade he should have swapped it out. Unfortunately it probably won’t match your set, unless he just happens to have some of the older Handles laying around.

bmwpower tactfully responded, far better than how you initiated things, and let go of it from there. No pettiness, just dismissed it with a casual response and went about his day.
His response was mature and on point. I can totally see why Ryan, whose best interest is in making this a cool and welcoming place, supported the way he handled it.

Bro, he’s been a member since 2005, back from before it was even Garage Journal. It’s pretty expected to have a high post count after 18 years. And he’s a mod which means he would spend a lot more time here than the average Joe.
I’ll admit, his post title wasn’t amazingly clear at first, but it was pretty easy to understand after you opened the thread. Clearly it was good enough to get responses related to his topic.
No reason to get up in arms about it.

What is the model number on the handle? I'll see if I have access to another mint example.
My parents were big on manners. They taught me that it's important to treat people like you yourself would like to be treated. Failing to do so creates tension and unnecessary ugliness.
This is just rude... and to continue pushing the point, one in which you can't win online, is an obvious waste of time.
Point being, chill out. If you didn't understand his title, just ask. There's no reason to get all aggressive...

I was taught manners as well.
It is considered polite and good manners to communicate effectively with others.
This involves all forms of communication, including written communication.
No aggressiveness on my part whatsoever.
This is a forum on the internet about garages and tools.
There are a number of threads that are started here, on this forum, that have purposely ambiguous titles. I imagine a lot of this has to do with the thread OP being desirous for “click-bait”.
The rest of us suffer trying to decipher the thread and its intent. Furthermore, any lessons and information shared that can be gleaned by others is often lost because it will not show up in search results because of issues like ambiguous thread titles that no one can manage to search for.
The purpose of my posts regarding this is betterment of this forum, knowledge sharing and transfer amongst fellow members, and a desire that the bar be raised -collectively- towards more adult levels of written communication.
This is not a lot to ask for.
I own multiple forums. Have for 30 yeas. If you don’t understand something and want to better the joint, just politely ask for clarification.
