Snap on screwdrivers do not fit

I've found some Snap on screwdrivers do not fit well with screws. Two examples are Torx T10 and Philips #1. I thought the problem was due to the non-standard sizes of the screws, untill today when I tried to open my FH80 with my Snap on T10 screwdriver. The SO T10 is too big for the screws, although my SK or Gearwrench T10 bits fit the screws perfectly well.

I had to return my Snap on Philips #1 screwdriver. It is useless, too big for Philips #1 screws. It looks like the tip is filed too much by Snap on.

Anyone has similar experiences?

Buy a set of gunsmithing screwdriver bits. Brownells has some sets that have around 100 different sizes. They also have add on kits. Small kits also. Chapman and Wheeler also make good kits.
They also make special grind stones to grind bits for a special use.

I have had alot of Snap-on "defects" over the years. Soo many stupid defects, that I don't think SO is worth the money anymore at all:( They are just another tool company, even their dealers are TOOLS, for the most part.:lol_hitti

I like my Snap-On screwdrivers; that being said, for precision fit and excellent quality, look to Wera and Wiha, FTW! :)

I've always had good experience with my Snap-on screwdrivers. I have had bad luck trying to turn some screws made with cheap metal.( with any screwdrivers ).I recently bought a couple posidrive screwdrivers, in case I come across any.:rolleyes2

I've never had a problem with any of my Snapon torx drivers, phillips drivers or flat drivers. If I did have a problem I would ask Snapon to replace it.

I have to agree with -B- on this one. Snap on has given me more pains with #1 Phillips then all the other brands combined.

I like their old style screwdrivers but the #1 Phillips are weird.

:lol_hitti I have a mechanic buddy, that won't work on a car with a lowly Craftsman tool, etc... He even has a big vinyl Snap-on decal on the window of his truck. He will only use Snap-on tools, but munches Big Macs, and rolls BIG women:headscrat Prime example of priorities mixed up. He's Coo Coo for Snap-on.:drunk:

You know I've seen it mentioned on here before about the #1's. But I can't find it now I know Merkava was in the thread.

I believe the SDDP31 was a #1 Phillips with the larger handle that is typical for the P2 screwdriver.

The SDDP31 Handle pictured appears to have a #2 shaft installed. This could happen at the factory or on the truck.

My only Snap On is an orange handle flat head. It had been abused by someone so the tip was awfull. I reground it and its now one of my better screwdrivers. Its now a little fatter at the tip so it fits nice n snug. I figured that when I filed it down I'd go past the point of where it was tempered and the tip wouldnt stand up to much use but its still quite solid.
I'm not sure how I feel about the handle though.

Some times you need to blunt the tip others you need to file the tapers to fit the screws correctly. Yep I got burnt twice and never will again. I laugh every time one of the guys in the shop pays such a high price fora tool that dose not fit high quality screws correctly and they spout this is the best ......

Whia, Wera ,Kline 8 function or the hardware store multi bit screw drivers for me. ( my fav come from aubuchon hardware http://hand-tools.hardwarestore.com...chon-hardware-10-in-1-screwdriver-101506.aspx) they all fit a #1p ever time the first time.

someone slept while printing it on the handle ??? That looks like ph1 + ph2 ??

I'll post a picture after awhile showing all three screwdrivers: both #1's and the #2.

Over the years, I've acquired several #1's that I swore were 0's. These were new in packaging right off the truck.

Is it possible that you have a #0 shaft installed in the SDDP319 handle?

No, the tip is bigger than a #0. I use that screwdriver when a #0 is too small and a #1 is too big. It's the perfect size for the screws on my TV remote. :)
