Snap-on TM 67A disassembly

This is my 1st thread so I hope that I have my pictures uploaded correctly. I need to disassemble a Snap-on TM 67A 1/4" drive ratcheting adapter. To me it looks like there are two holes that a small spanner or snap ring tips fit into to turn the top off. I tried a little pressure trying to turn. Can anyone tell me if I am right. I don't want to break this or any other tools just to clean and lube it.

Yep. The holes are for a pin spanner. I tried using snap ring pliers to get mine apart and it didnt give. Same for 3/8 and 1/2 in drive too.

Just use a small pin punch and a 8oz ball pein. The small pin punch should bend before getting a chance to ****** the holes up and the light weight hammer helps not to mar also. At least that's how i opened a old one from the 50s.

Thanks for the suggestions. So now that I confirmed how to disassemble it, I tried again with a snap ring pliers. It is too tight for this option. I tried the small punch suggestion. Nope. I even laid it on a piece of wood and tapped the outside knurled outer ring while rolling it with a dead blow mallet to try to break it free. I ended up flushing it out with Kroil and a needle point air nozzle. It works nice and smooth now. Hopefully this will work out for me. Thanks again!

Good to hear. I was going to suggest just soaking but I wasn't sure if you were real curious about the guts.

One SO dealer wouldn't rebuild an older 1/2" one I had, he said it couldn't be rebuilt. I had already opened it up, and to me, some parts seemed to be seized and possibly missing. He replaced it instead.

Not sure if old kits are even available for those?

The new ones have a retaining ring on the outside.

I'd try soaking it in a cup of ATF.

The dealers had a special socket to take them apart, had two pins
