Snap On tool box alternative

Does anyone know of an alternative to this portable Snap On tool box?

I can't justify spending ~$1,000 on one of these boxes, even if I had the money.

Yes, the Milwaukee PackOut style boxes with drawers are an alternative, but they are overpriced.

Thanks, but that doesn't help. Those appear to be just as expensive as the Snap On version. Unless there is something I'm missing.

A used pelican 0450 gmtk box on ebay might best the best option if it's in ok condition. For new, Dynamic tools sells this Italian made box that is similar to an 0450, but is still kind of pricey.

The cheapest alternative I can think of that might be good is this CH Ellis case HJE sells. I kind of doubt it's built as heavy as a Pelican and I'm guessing not waterproof.
Here's an old thread showing what looks to be the same case loaded up with tools to give you an idea on how much it can hold.

Zoro has a Gray tools cheat similar to that I picked up earlier this year for significantly less, especially with a 20% coupon. They are rebranded, but I can’t recall the manufacturer. The one from Epstein’s interests me though.

Definitely second looking for a used Pelican 0450 case on Ebay! There is a lot of used military cases that the exteriors are a bit rough on but the cases are still pretty solid!

You can also get an Apache 5800 (HF for $100), a CVPKG mesh lid organizer (Amazon for $43) and CVPKG inserts (Amazon for $139), but won't have the capacity you have with the Pelican 0450 and you are still in for $280, which is close to the price for a used Pelican 0450.

If it doesn't all need to be consolidated into a single case (i.e. you aren't traveling via air with your tools), you can get Apache cases (HF's knockoff of Pelican) for pretty reasonable, get some Kaizen foam and make your own mobile / road cases.

Apache isn't Pelican quality and the plastic quality used on the latches seems to be hit or miss (some last forever, some snap within the first few months), but they do work at protecting tools from the elements. They don't have the auto air pressure equalization that Pelican has and instead just have a thumb screw with a rubber gasket, but they do work.

All depends on your needs.

If it were me and I NEEDED a single road case, I would find myself a used Pelican 0450 and then just order some CVPKG blank inserts or Kaizen foam to make my own inserts.

Just my two cents.

Keep an eye on CL and eBay. I bought that exact Snap-on box on eBay for like $600 + shipping earlier this year after missing out on one locally. It lives behind the seat in my service truck, so the Armstrong version didn't work for me.

Just stumbled on a used one by me on Facebook for $300. Shame you’re not closer.

Received the 0450, it’s certainly usable but rough.
I’ve ordered new foam for the drawers.

It’s going to be a travel/field box.
No Snap On tools in case it gets stolen.
Going with just 1/4 and 1/2 drive so I don’t duplicate much.

Stahlwille offer one.

They come in a couple of different colours, and I think you can configure them different ways regarding wheels.

This side of the pond they are considerably cheaper than the Peli, but that may not be the case in the U.S.

Part No. is 13217

I really like that. It's cheaper than Snap On, but definitely not cheap.

Resurrecting an old thread, but I got mine from Snappy. Is it expensive? YES! For me, is it worth it, double YES. I've got more than enough to do my job and then some. Even shadowed I still have some room for expansion. FWIW, I work as a line mechanic for a major airline.
