I have a Snap On toolbox 2000 series with the pushbutton combination lock. My 6 year old daughter locked it and I cannot open it. I haven't locked it in 20 years and I don't remember the combo. I tried calling my local Snap On dealer and he referred me to the Snap On corporate office. They were no help they refused to give me the factory set combo saying it was "company privileged information". Is there annyone that still has the owners manual or knows the default combo so I can get to my tools.

This box wasn't around long and only made it into one catalog , the 1990 catalog issued June 1989.

The part #'s are KB2001 for the Roll Cab and KB2100 for the Top Chest.

They were too expensive even by SO standards. The box is not welded, but glued together with industral glue making it stronger then a box welded together.

More details please? Was it supposedly stronger than a kr1000 that is welded? What about its price relative to a kr1000?

If you have ahold of it good with a couple pair of vice grips, a quarter panel's remaining row of spot welds an be removed by human force. One properly adhered with industrial adhesive (used commonly on panel replacement now,) cannot.

I don't think the guy's gonna see your message. It was almost two years ago when he started this thread and he hasn't posted since.

Re: Snap On Toolbox 2000 Series ?

Hello fellow snap on tool box owners. I inherited one from my dad and never had the combination lock number. Would like to know if anyone out there knows how to change the combo. Would really appreciate the help. Thanks to all! Bob

I will check and see if I still have my instructions. I changed mine years ago from the original one that came on it. I think you can contact Snap-on, and they might be able to help also.

Guy's you can break into the box using a 5/16 rod or fuel line about 40 inches long. First make a 3/8 inch long bend in the line. Pull off the plastic cover on the top, take the rod and run it behind the top down the inside edge. There is a lever there in the middle that you can pull or push over that will open the drawers on the top box. remove the drawers take a small wedge of wood and pull out on the edge of the top a little to give you a little more working room. You should be able to see the back on the lock now with the drawers out and a flash light. hopeful your is like mine and you will see a small collar on the shaft there is an Allen screw in it, remove it and slide the lock bars off the lock.

Now the bottom is a little harder, now take the rod whit the 3/8 end bent and make another bent the other direction, you want that 3/8 end to point to the back of the box when you sliding it in. Note look at how the top box lever action works, you'll be doing the same to the bottom box with the rod.

Take a big screw driver and push it in the top drawer just enough to get the rod in. Use a flash light look at where the rod goes that comes out of the lock, move it to the left and you will see the end of it. OK if you look close you see a rod that runs across the back, just above were the lock rod ends. you need to get that rod under the rod going across the back and turn the end of the rod to pick that rod up.(your rod should look like a backwards L). that rod in the back pulls up all the lock channels in the back of the box.

Now take out the drawers in the bottom.

Now you can remove the locks and recode them, if you don't know how to do it contact me and I send you the info to recode them.

Once you done this you can do it in about 3 minutes first time takes a little long to make the tool and to find just where thing are. If you work with people like I do you learn these thing because they break in and change you code when you off sick.

If you want to drill them out I have that info too. But Snapon wants $250.00 each for the lock. but you can get them cheaper through Kaba Access control they list for around $140.00.

I just bought a Snap On 2000 series box and searched the Internet trying to find parts and info on the box. It looks like some of you guys know quite a bit about them. The gas struts are bad and they don't open a full 90 degrees. Not sure if that's the way they come. Does anyone have the part # for the struts? Also the locks on the bottom box don't work at all and I don't have the combo. It looks like the slide bars have been removed. Found them in one of the drawers. Also missing some of the rubber end caps for 2 drawers and rubber end caps on the rear of the top box. The box is not on level ground and the bottom box drawers slide open on their own. 1 drawer is hardto open and close. Tracks might need to be replaced. Would like to get everything fixed. Please guide me in the right direction.

If it's a KB2001 Lock is 8-590R, it's $298 on Snap On site. Only other parts showing is screws & slides for drawers. No parts show up for KB2000.

My bad, KB2100, struts are part # 1-1169, not available though. Same lock as bottom and pretty much same parts as bottom available.

I'm in the same boat. Have a 2000 Series middle and bottom box that has never been locked and somehow the middle box got locked.
Now I can't get into it and don't have the push button code.
I know this is an old thread, but did anyone ever find out how to get the codes if available anywhere?

I hate to destroy the lock, but may not have any choice.

Can anyone help??? :dunno:
