I have a Snap on QJR-3250 and the ratchet head is slipping. I emailed snap on and asked if there was a repair kit available. Here is their reply:

"Hi Kelly,

Thank you for contacting us at Snap-on.

The parts for that unit are long discontinued. I do apologize for this, but

we no longer have a repair kit for this unit. There is an "A" model, but the

head is very different than the original version.

Thank you,"

So now what to do with this expensive paper weight :headscrat:confused:

I tried that a couple years ago with a torque wrench my dad got from work about 30 years ago. They more or less told me I was SOL. Wouldn't take it back on trade in towards a new one either.

Well called them and the nice customer service rep said that even the repair center can not fix it due to no parts available. So I told her I was in the market for a 3/8 torque wrench and if they would give me a good deal on that since this one can't be fixed and she said no:mad::mad:

I guess lifetime warranty does not apply to torque wrenches:dunno:

Everytime I've tried to do anything with an SO torque wrench they come back with a line pretty much saying, out of production no replacement parts available. This is the reason I own all Matco torque wrenches now and will never buy another SO torque wrench.

How old is the ratchet head? How many ratchet kits are Snap On supposed to keep, and for how many years? :headscrat

Complaining about a lifetime warranty on a discontinued tool? :wtf: So should I ***** about them not having a replacement dwell meter that i have sitting in a tool box? Or a Snap On B4203 head bolt adapter? Companies don't keep an unlimited supply of everything for every tool they make. Nobody does.....

As for Matco, they don't make their torque wrenches either. They are probably Utica/Armstrong/KD made.

So buy a different ratchet head for the thing, or take it apart and fix it yourself. Machine shop can make new parts if you are so inclined.

Personally, I would shitcan it and buy a new one. There's a few good torque wrench companies out there.

I dont think anyone has a lifetime warranty on torque wrenches. Next door neighbor had a craftsman that was 4 years old couldnt get parts for it. Hangin on his garage wall as a conversation piece.

Its a 30+ year old torque wrench. Its had a good long life, replace it and move on. Expecting a hand-out for a tool like that is a little much.

Why would there be trade in value for a tool that can never be functional again? I've always thought of torque wrenches as tools with limited life spans, even with 100% proper care.

Well that's not really what I was getting at. Just seems a shame to have to throw away an expensive tool just for something as simple as the ratchet teeth skipping. An it's not 30 years old I don't think but cant find info on when it was made. I am getting a mill and lathe in the near future but I don't think that would be a beginner learning project:lol_hitti

Now that I think about it, they usually use the same ratchet head as the regular ratchets. Perhaps you can take it apart and scavenge parts from a 30 year old ratchet? F760 or whatever ancient one? Or you can just tack weld the whole thing solid, eliminating the ratcheting mechanism. It would still function as a torque wrench then, just only in one direction (no more left handed bolt torquing for you!).

As long as we're on the subject of torque wrenches, if you were to buy a new one, who would you buy today? I just can't swallow $500 for a tech angle. Not to mention if i'm using something like that usually its on a job that i'm not really getting paid too well for to justify that kind of cost.

Going out on a limb as they say but I think (key word) that all the companies that make torque wrenches only give a one year warranty ;again I could be wrong but I still think this is the case.

I understand buying used has a downside effect (not trusting the readings); so if the op does not want snap-on their are so many fine products out there waiting to had for much less money.

Case in point HD sold a nice USA made torque wrench (but now made in China); if you hunt through their old stock you may find some older USA.

Or as others have mentioned the PI torque wrench, Utica, Armstrong, KD, proto, etc. for much cheaper prices.
