Hmm.. I paid 2000 for a new black KRL722 from a local guy (not a dealer).. and it was mint.

I would go up the chain at snap on to make this right. Honestly, where is the value in this relationship you have with the current snap on dealer if he's not taking care of this matter.

You paying for the accessory is insulting.

Its Black! The hardest color to keep. On any surface!

It's funny the comments about tool box price.

I see plenty of my peers spending money on stuff much worse.

$25K on a Harley that's a piece of rehashed 40's technology that they then "customize" with another $25K on chrome ****, lights, wheels, handlebars, exhausts, big bore kits, etc. etc.

$50K on a truck that they don't really need then spend another $10-15K lifting it into the clouds and putting on huge wheels, mud tires, locking diffs, metal rock guards all over, bumpers, winches, etc.. just to bash the hell out of it on some trail to look cool.

Spending $5-6K on a home entertainment package to have some fancy 3D TV blue ray gizmotronic dolby 20.0 wannabe movie theater in your living room.

All of the above things don't make any money whatsoever and lose value the more you own them.

Toolboxes make you money and are lifetime investments in your trade. I can't lock up my tools in a plastic bag from Target when I go home. If you make good enough money it's a small price to pay.

I dont know about the making money part since the OP seems to have purchased it for home use but agree that there are many other hobby holes you could throw just as much if not far more money into.

At the end of the day the box holds it's value quite nice too if you used it as a pro or not.

Unless he stated the box had damage on it then I would not stop fighting at the very least a set of free drawer guards......I would make a very calm polite call to Snap-On I don't think customer service would approve of the way your dealer is handling the situation, that is a decent sized investment into the company and I'm sure they would feel a lot different about this then your rep. A phone call is free and will help improve customer service of the company as a whole. Best of luck to you !!

I just bought a brand new black Krl 722 from my dealer two weeks ago
Out the door for $3000. So he didn't give you that great of a deal.
I would definitely throw a fit if I was in your situation.
He made enough off your purchase he can give you the drawer guards.
Or I would give him the box back and say you want a $1000 in tools since your
trade in is supposedly gone.

Well, like I said, I don't have a $5-6K toolbox. I don't have any of that **** you listed above either.

While I'd NEVER pay that much for a toolbox, I'm even LESS inclined to spend tons of money on rapidly depreciating, instantly obsolete garbage such as the things that you referenced.

I talked to Snap On customer service this morning, they said that the area business manager will contact me in the next few days, and that he should be able to take care of the matter. I let you know what happens.

I've never dealt with Snapon or any tool truck dealers before, but I am getting to the point where I may be dropping some dollars on more expensive tools.
I am very interested on how this turns out per Snapons highly touted customer service.

While every dealer is differant, Snap-on as a whole is a fantastic company and im willing to bet they handle this promptly. All things considered, tool quality, design, service...snap on is the Cadillac of tools.

I'd buy from Snapon.com from now on, and every time you get something, let him know the next day. "Hey--I just bought another $500 in tools from Snap-on.com.. I'd have bought them from you, but I spent all my "******** on the tool truck" money on drawer guards for a box that was supposedly brand new and came with factory-installed scratches."

Every time.
With an audience.

I'd be such a pain in that *****'s *** that he'd turn tail and leave whenever he saw me coming... cutting his visits short, which would cut into his bottom line even deeper.

I'll go... but I won't go quietly.

That would only half work since IIRC, your local dealer gets a cut of snapon.com sales delivered to their areas.

A set of drawer guards KADGP7022 would cover up any scuffs and dress the box up some. Make some phone calls and propose this as a solution.

X2

Exactly my first thought when I read the OP.....
get them to work those into a good deal - be willing to pay for them, just not full price as way to help work out this situation. In other words, tell the SO many to get you the guards at his cost and you'll call it even. It dress up the box and make it more worth more anyway.

>Jason;

When you said he had the box on the truck..was it a demo? If it was a new box, it should have come in a shipping crate. And should have been perfect. A bit of wear is to be expected from a demo box.

I guess I meant that he had one on hand, It was in his storage unit. If it was a demo or anything of the sort, I wouldn't make a big deal about it, this was supposed to be brand new.

I agree with skyline, if it was not in a shipping crate delivered to your door it was probably used. You still got a nice box. Go for the guards.

Don't settle. See what the snap on manager offers. He may just end up replacing all the drawers.

It would pay off.. think of all the great PR snap on will get here.

Replacing the drawers would be a waste. Drawer guards would actually be an upgrade.

I would never take delivery on a $5000 purchase until I thoroughly checked it over. And your Snap On guy is a **** for not taking care of it.

Agree. I would feel like I was made a jerk out of after spending so much coin with this fella. But if you did get a demo box you made a real bone head move when like new used boxes are about 1/2 what you paid with money you did not have.

That's a true statement and the bold portion is probably the most important part of it. Good deals are generally only available to those with cash in hand. If someone doesn't have the cash in hand to pay for an item and they have to have it now, then they're going to pay for it. That's just the way it is.

Personally I don't think that the OP is completely unreasonable, but I also think that he bears part of the fault for not being there at the time of delivery. If something like this is important enough to bother the OP, then it should have been important enough for him to insist on being present at the time of delivery. A great deal of this hassle could likely have been avoided. I think a set of drawer guards at a token cost, or for free would be the appropriate solution for this problem. I personally wouldn't pay less for that box because of those minor drawer scratches, but I also wouldn't be willing to pay anywhere near retail either.

It's funny when threads get this long, and people don't read from the beginning. This was not any kind of demo box. My dealer went to a tool show in Vegas, were he was able to buy a number of boxes at a discount price. Mine was one of those boxes. MY box was not on display at the tool show, he just happen to buy it there, and it got shipped to him from snap on. I WAS there at the time of delivery, but I didn't think to inspect, what was supposed to be a brand new box. My bad on that I guess. If I can get drawer guards at no cost to me, I will be a happy camper! As far as buying a a box with money I didn't have, who said that i didn't have the money to pay for it?

Not for nothing but if it didnt come crated, was very dusty, and is pre-scratched, [all your own observations] it wasnt new in the sense that it was factory fresh. My bet is it was a floor demo or a display box as well.

Hate to be that guy as well but if he got such a great price why didnt he extend it to you and why is he being such a d-bag about the imperfections?

No matter the outcome, new dealer or buy online, just my 2 cents. Sounds like a scum bag.

It's not unusual for all sorts of dealers to try to pass off demo equipment as new. A few years back, I leased a $20k color copier for my business. When I got the machine, it look perfect, brand new in every respect. Until I checked the counter and found it had 100,000 copies on it. On a machine like this, that's not a huge number, but still, not what I bargained for. After I bitched, the company dropped my lease price by 20%, AND gave me a new $3,500 laser fax machine for free. They explained that the machine had been in use in their own office for about a year.

For the person that asked about this -- yes, my dealer told me the same thing. For any orders placed on Snap-On.com, all the dealers in that zone/area get a cut of the purchase.

Well, that just sealed the deal for me never buying snap-on again. I already had my mind pretty much made up, but that was the cherry on top.

Actually 100K on a color copier is alot. The office is prolly not going to run up that volume in a year, what possibly happened is that it was leased to someone else, funding couldn't happen, they made all the copies/prints they needed, then it got picked up, may have also been a loaner unit to someone else.

-sorry not trying to hijack....

Well I met my dealer today, I got polished stainless drawer guards for the box and side cab, no charge to me. I am very happy with the outcome, no more scratches, and a nice upgrade for the box. I'll post pics when I get them on. He also had a nice new epic on the truck, with painters tape on the tops of the drawers!
