snap on vs fertilizer?

Hey guys I was putting a packing wheel on our planted tonight and I brought out the good old fn100... as it was sitting on a row unit I accidently bumped it (go figure) and dropped into some 10-34-00. How well do you think it will hold up??

Ya I took if out after like 5 seconds it was dark so i didn't notice it landed in fertilizer right away. I wiped it down as good as I could but I don't know how well that will work

I lost a wrench last summer. I finally found it . It fell into a open bag of 10-20-20. It was so corroded I wasn't sure what it was at first.That's some nasty stuff.

I'd recommend that you completely disassemble the ratchet and wash it out with soap and water. Then dry it thoroughly and re-oil it.

Yeah take it apart. Liquid has more than likely gotten inside and will start rusting the guts out of that ratchet.

Disassemble, clean, and relube.

Fertilizer will win every time nasty stuff, had a roommate tell me that years ago he was standing next to his tractor and their was a pin hole leak of AH (Anhydrous Ammonia); short story he almost lost his leg spent some time in the ER, you don't ever want to see that guys leg scars.

i was working on my planter this spring and it didn't hurt my sk ratchet. that liquid fertilizer sticks everything together. even after wiping things down with a wet rag the residue still shows up. if it was just on the outside i would keep it well lubed with some sort of solvent that stays on and does noet evaporate. if it got inside i would completely tear it down, soak the parts in water to dilute the fert., spray the parts down in brake cleaner or carb cleaner. then reassamble with plenty of your lube of choice.

Completely dis-assemble. Dont take a chance.
I'd wash it out with simple green & water...then soak it overnight in diesel or something. Then re-assemble.

16-30 john Deere 7200 with dry and liquid. Ratchet looks okay so far but there is some residue so maybe I'll try to clean it some more

Never oil it unless you've clean it, that fertilizer and petroleum product do not make a good mixture.

I have a masterlock that fell victim to a similar scenario... It worked for a while but is now permanently locked onto a chain. Internal components completely seized and corroded together. Key wont even go into it. I figure I'll eventually cut it off when I see the need.

A little iron is good for the Roses. I toss in rusty nails every few years. When I did around them they have always rusted away.

We used to have a customer who would ask for a container full of brake lathe shavings for her roses.

You're gonna have a very expensive heavily corroded ratchet if you don't take it apart and clean it out.
