Snap On warranty

Beating a dead horse, if Snapon starting demanding proof of purchase for warranty, new tool sales would drop like a rock and prices would have to fall.

Grey area is if they continue to warranty as in the past on the trucks and only make non truck buyers hop through some rings, but I suspect even that would have some ripples that would hurt their bottom line more than doing the warranty.

BTW I really don't like lying, not a little, not a bit.

There have been dozens of threads on here where people send stuff in to Snap-on and they get new tools sent to them. One person even got a brand new ratchet without even having to send in his old ratchet. The OP must of gotten a poorly trained phone rep. If Snap-on was trying to cut down on thier warranty costs, they would not be sending out new ratchets when people send in their old one, they would be rebuilding them or sending out repair kits.

SO are shooting themselves in the foot with the $10 repair kits. It's cheaper to mail them the ratchet. Same applies to their $10 socket driver bits. I used to buy the bits and replace them myself back when they were priced reasonable.

tool should be replaced, doesnt matter who bought it. you warranty the tool not the owner. the product is either guaranteed for life or it isnt, especially when you charge 11,000 percent more than other tool companies with better warranties

Your confusing Sears Warranty with Snap on's, IF you read there Warranty Disclosure it only Pertains to the "Original" Purchaser. Fortunately for Us they dont stick to it, This is the first time ive ever heard of Customer service balking on a Warranty. If the OP sends the new socket to Snap On's warranty address, He WILL receive a New socket. NO Questions asked... If it was mine personally i would just try and track down a Local guy, He shouldnt balk on a New looking Cracked socket.

I am sure that SO has done cost analysis studies when it comes to the pricing of the repair kits and replacement bits.

...and the tool will get replaced.

Just email snap on and they will send you the rebuild kits for free. I got two of them a couple of weeks ago.

I am the Wanderer
I've had broken, rusty, worn out, half missing, can't tell what they even are tools that I sent in. All replaced. My dad gave me a bunch of his old stuff so I went through it and sent in the unusable items, no problem.

I wasn't the original owner, and I didn't break the tools, no questions asked, and if any of you have a problem with it (some people don't like it on here when you send in a tool that isn't yours), I really don't care.

Tools I buy from ebay, sometimes they are broken or worn out, I send them in. I bought them to use them, and if the sellers weren't honest with their descriptions and snap-on warranties their tools, I am going to get them warrantied, I have never been asked if I was the original owner, I have traded and warrantied on a truck with tools twice as old as I am, no problems. As stated in this thread, you just got the wrong person.

I don't pretend to know whether $10 is a fair price or not, but for the ratchet rebuild kits and driver bits that see heavy use in particular, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to have the replacement gut kit and common bits in my toolbox than duplicate tools.

If I break a bit, I hammer it out and press in a new one on the spot. If the ratchet strips, I rebuild it on the spot. The next week when Snappy guy comes around, he exchanges the broken bits and kits for me. Toolbox footprint stays smaller and cheaper that way. Most importantly, the work gets done.

The SO warranty and more importantly the fact you don't have to use it much is the ONLY reason to buy the tools.

I had a really good snap on dealer some time back, on my flex head ratchet something happened where the ratchet got pinned in place and with a transmission taking a small chunk of chrome out of it. Well talked to my dealer and he said he couldn't warranty because of that, but quote " if for some strange reason the flex joint on the handle breaks because some smart *** put it in a vise and broke the area where the holding screw goes, then I can swap it out for you..."

Yes its wasn't snap-ons fault for the chrome chipping off the ratchet, but since I spent alot of money with the dealer I had, he took care of me since I also hardly came on the truck to warranty item, was more about buying tools.
