My grandfather was an ASE master mechanic and worked for 14 years. He doesn't use his tools much anymore but still has his Snap On and Mac and USA craftsman stuff. His SO ratcheting screwdriver is really worn out and I offered to have it replaced for him.

I would like to have it done in about 2 weeks, because he retired on June 4th (forgot the year). I would normally ask my driver, but he is out on vacation for about a month.

What is the best way to have it done, can i send it in, will I have to pay shipping? I also don't have proof of purchase.

What can I expect if I call SO and ask to warranty my grandpa's old screwdriver?

Thank you for all responses.

Call their customer service.

Proof of purchase probably won't be asked for. This is a clause that is used more or less for drivers to protect themselves against those people who never spend a dime on the truck at shops but somehow have SO tools to warranty.

I just warrantied 2 tools with the 800 number. She asked me the part numbers, and sent them in the mail. Told me to "dispose of the broken tools accordingly". I dont know if they only do this for lower dollar tools, but give them a call and try your luck.

She did not ask me for proof of purchase either.

I have had to warranty two sockets in the last two years. This was also my experience. Very easy to deal with.

Well the serial number for mine was SSDMR4A, I thought the A meant orange. I would love to have an orange, but I dont care enough, I kinda forgot about it.

Here we have poor truck service except for re-shanking screwdrivers. I have had excellent warranty service from snap-on on hand me down's with the 800# generally e-mail customer service a photo of the broken tool. They will send a replacement some times over night. Some times a call tag is in the box some times they will say on the phone scrap the tool. Generally is a call tag is required they let ya know.

Replacement should be arriving in the morning UPS. The one in the above photo will be used for bar stock or ill mage a large punch out of the handle!
