Got an older snapon 1/2x9/16 line wrench. The stamping is way off center. Is that pretty valuable or just worth about 30 bucks?6d66f3eb811989ddc313a1e46ef07c24.jpg

actually, what i find interesting is that the engraving disappears under the ridge. i would have assumed that there would be damage to the ridge from the application of the engraving, but there isn't.

it really looks like the ridge was added after the engraving, like someone built a wall down the middle of a carpeted room, and just nailed the base plate down on top of the carpet.

as for worth? well, was it made after they converted to making it from unicorn horn, and chroming it with angel's tears?

They are like 40 bucks new. Just googled the p/n and saw some on eBay for 30. Granted no bids yet, just a fresh listed one. A this is not anymore valuable because of that mistake?

It's not a ridge. It's a groove.

I'd say it's worth about ten bucks....maybe as high as 15. No way is it worth 30.

Perhaps. It's a VERY old style.

New is different. RXFS1618B retails for $43.25. But yours is not made the same as that, and the new ones are a little better (I suspect that yours predates flank drive). New is also off the truck price, which factors in Snap On's financing.

Sold from anyone but a Snap On dealer, in like-new condition, $30 is kind of high.
$20 is where I'd put the cap on yours. Maybe a little more if someone is desperate to complete a set.

Not to me, personally. However, to someone who is really into collecting tools they may drop a few extra bucks on it. Sports cards, coins, comic books all have extra value if they have misprints.

I find most snap on line wrenches fetch about $10 used. But who knows, maybe there is a collector of mis stamped tools out there. Hopefully for you, there will be two collectors who will want to bid up the price on eBay.

I've never met anyone who collects defective tools, but you might get lucky and find one.

Pleased to meet you RVDan. :lol_hitti

Cool Snap On wrench madmax. I pick up defective tools sometimes. There are a lot locally because of the tool manufacturing history here.

Most I see are factory seconds and scrapped pieces. Your wrench is cool because it probably slipped past QC as a finished product. Really no more value than a normal wrench IMO, maybe less, but some Snap On collector may pay more. Who knows. :dunno:

I would display it.

Not the same deal. With Craftsman you expect there to be mistakes and horrible quality control. If they got that wrong, I am surprised it didn't fall to dust on the first use. This is likely the only Snap-on that was ever allowed to leave the factory that way. They may desire it for their museum or simply have it back to destroy so there is no record.

On a serious note, as was mentioned it is different with stamps and coins produced by the government vs even coins and things like it made by a private entity. It is the allure that something imperfect (other than politicians and policy) was allowed to leave and bypassed their exacting standards.... since it is about the only thing that comes out of there with such a record.

It's a tool, it's worth no more than any other of that same tool in that same condition. I'd probably pay even less for it than a comparable one if the seller thought it was worth more.
