My father in law closed up his machine shop recently, and in clearing 70+ years(his dad started it) of junk collecting, found this little ole thing.......whaddya think, worth anything to anybody?

They still make a version. Great for setting bearing pre-load (though 600 in-lbs would be a lot of pre-load).

I'd keep it if I were you.

I have my grandfather's, with the original booklet and 1972 calibration. He must have used it very little because it's pristine. My Torque meter is priceless.. +1 to keeping it, family stuff(especially tools) should stay close imo

I have the same one, but the meter cant be read very well because it is so scratched and faded.

that is the style I used in school. every time I come across one at auction they go for crazy (IMO) money, but have never seen one with the case. I've got a 3/4" drive version that is huge (Mac not snap on) I got for $5 once but it is pretty much useless for me (way too big), so yeah it's worth something, probably around $150 from what I've seen...

Thanks for all the replies. This was abandoned up in the attic of the place, so not sure there is any "sentimental" value here. Pretty sure it wasn't the grandfather-in-law's tool, as he was notorious for engraving all his tools with his SSN, and this one is not so marked. The ssn engraving, btw, has caused my FIL no end of grief to get the closure done....

I didn't know they made one, snapmom! I've seen a TQ-3 (1/4-inch drive). What was the model number? And what was the capacity? I'd love to see a photo.

Thanks, cg. I am pretty familiar with the history and production, and have had a good deal of pieces over the years. But I've never heard of a TQ in that size. Hopefully snapmom will clue us in.

BTW, I saw some old auctions (closed) on ebay with the 9/32nd SO Torqometer. Model number is RT-250. Here's one of them with a pic.

Reporauno, If the plastic dial cover is scratched and discolored like mine was, some #1200 sandpaper followed with plastic polish will make it easier to read.

I have a 1/2 inch with a long handle and goes to 250 foot pounds. I paid $40 for it at a used tool store and it was in perfect calibration. I bought it for engine work but I used it for wheel bearings too. Only torque wrench I have that goes that high.
