Mostly repair so far. Testing the drainage.
Second pic is a non ABS filler break. The others were all on the hall bath lav, three failures: screw penetration, void in the joint and cracked pipe. After repairing the screw hole, retesting , repairing the void, retesting and finding the crack, I ended up tearing it out and replacing it all.
More than likely a stinky bathroom.

One was built in 1948, 1952, and 1970. Single bathroom. It had four kinds of water pipe, three kinds of drain pipe, and three kinds of electrical. It had a spot with negative roof pitch. It had one inch of loose fiberglass insulation in the attic. Period. The floors, walls, door knobs, faucets, and everything was either obsolete or non standard ( custom, if you are feeling charitable )

But it had a nice lot in the perfect, perfect location.

Second house is triple the size for one third the occupants. Everything works and is a class leading choice functionally . (Nothing fancy or opulent. )

It is in the perfect, perfect location (for us at this life stage).

I wouldn't do anything differently if I could. I sincerely hope you feel the same.

There is no distance requirement, but the receptacle has to be GFCI.

I bought some tee extractors a couple of months ago. I am missing the inch pliers however. Looks like your missing the included drill. You are brazing/silver soldering(really brazing) the joints right?

If you don't like the brick you could cover it with fabricated stone.... Would look really cool, I think!

Doesn’t have to be fabricated stone. There are plenty of manufactures of thin real stone as well which in my opinion looks a lot nicer

Plenty of choices (skim coat, paint, tile, cultured stone, just clean it, etc.) but it more depends on what overall style you want. Are you going to use it as a conventional fireplace or perhaps consider a gas insert so you get more functional use out of it.

Previous owner of my house painted over the brick and mantle w/ oil based gloss paint. Wish I could go back in time and stop him/her from doing it. I much prefer the brick, and there is no going back now....tried removing it manually and with chemicals, but the brick is the highly figured brick with a lot of holes/defects and the paint just wouldn't come out.

We opted to keep the old wood burning fireplace instead of going with an insert and I'm glad we did. We use it daily during the winter.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned.
