5 bucks at a church yardsale. works great minus the whole "it doesnt move much air" part but it looks cool and very art deco. wish i had deeper pockets cause there was afew room heaters, old tools and just a bunch of cool old stuff. but back to the fan, anyone know how old it is?and is there any way to make it blow more air? its going to get rewired minus the plug cord and i want to make it a really good functional fan. thanks:)

I'd say it is not designed to move as much air as might expect, you have to give the air time to heat up.

i think it's meant to be a heater with a slight push of fan blades.
then someone said, "HEY WE CAN TURN OFF THE HEAT AND CALL IT A FAN, TOO!"
then they did it.

It might just need a little oil in the motor bearings.

Charles

i took it appart and this statement is all so true. i think the heat heats up the thick grease in the motor and quiets it up while the heaters on, hence the dead silence. all the wiring is cloth wrapped and there no grommets anywhere:shocking: an electrician (and perfectionists) worst nightmare. so new wires are going everywhere. im going to run new cord inside the old cords outer layer so it looks old but works safe and all the insides are getting cleaned and replaced with black wire. im going to have a heck of a time finding all the pieces to replace on the inside that are heat safe (there heat shields and all the bolts are brass) but ill give it a week till its back to new. never thought i would want to use a heater in the summer in socal, well its cold when i get out of the pool. bout an hour later i was dry and still cold. turned the heater on in my room (before i knew the whole no grommets thing) and enjoyed it for a good 30 min. i dont know if i want even use the fan alone.

I don't think it meant to blow the air hard. Just enough air flow to stream the heat.
