He's always complaining and telling me how I don't have enough tools to fill my 30 drawer box. The problem is I don't need to buy anything since I just borrow his stuff. He has so much he doesn't even know stuff is missing. What's a young tech in debt tech to do?

I hope you are pulling our legs with that comment;if not, you are a thief. Assuming you keep what you borrow. I refer to this....(he doesn't even know stuff is missing.)
If I have interpreted this incorrectly, I apologize.

I agree there is no reason to buy tools just buy a big tool box after a few years of narrowing it will fill it's self up.

I never figured out why new guys buy the big Snap On or other brand boxes. Buy a good tool cart even the 5 drawer cart from Harbor Freight is good for the first few years. Get the tools together you REALLY need then add the tools you borrow from the old timers.

If you borrow a tool twice, you need to buy it.

This is a joke going along with the other actual thread on the same topic but from the old guys perspective.

Lol. Ended up finding it just before you posted.

The closet experience to this I can relate, is when I was in the dealership, we inherited a 30 year tech from another dealer that we bought out. Had a Snap On box the size of a railroad boxcar, with hardly anything in it. Unless you count empty boxes, and all his "awards" and plaques for managing to find his way to work every day for 30 years.

:willy_nilYou have something that is not needed, that is keeping You from getting something You need ??

I have been that Old Guy more than once.. Similar to Your case, a Young Fellow in the next bay bought a used, but nice box from SnapOn and placed his little carry box of tools in their new home. But he lacked a needle nose, his claw hammer had one claw broken off, no punches or chisels, and He had little else.. He welcomed himself to what He considered an open door policy to My tools and equipment.. He borrowed My test light one afternoon, and forgot it on a customer's vehicle. When I asked for it's return, He then remembered where it was, and told Me about "MY" sad news about the loss.. I just calmly told Him the SnapOn truck will be here on Thursday, and the price of a new test light.. He turned very sour and head out the door to track down the customer's vehicle, hoping it was still in the area.. He came back with that test light about 45 minutes later.. His attitude played out that He had really gone out of His way to get it. That was the day I finally told Him that I bought My tools for when I needed them, was tired of looking all over for them; and He would have to buy His own.

I suggested returning the unpaid for toolbox back to SnapOn, and check out the trade-in tools on the SnapOn truck. SnapOn did end up reloading that box. The Young Guy did see the light, and Thanked Me for Helping Him out.

Crazy ****, but I have a story to go along with it. Now I am going to read the other thread

i havent seen the other thread. taking this post seriously, the topic states some old guy is about to steal this kids box, but in reality, the kid is the thief

another take is the old man is rattling his cage about his box, mocking him for spending money on it when he should have purchased tools.

100 ways to look at it. dumb is another. and a waste of my time. if i keep typing, ill keep thinking of something.
