I used a seperate smaller drawer for 1/4" drive, the large drawer has a MDF piece under the sockets and I just screwed HF $1.00 socket rails to it. Low cost but it works fine.

I dont like those rails in the pix,all showing the "drive end" of the sockets facing up, Id rather have the "business end" of the sockets facing up, I can ID a socket easier/faster that way

all 1/4 sockets, extensions, ratchets(air and hand) together... same for all other drive sizes..... just makes it faster to grab the stuff you want without more drawers open than need to be...
This makes big sense if convenience and speed are a factor, we use a similar system but opening 2 to get to 1 would get old fast.

im looking for pics of peoples socket drawers :dunno:

im looking for some ideas

all sizes from small to bit

cheers

I used to use 3 drawer for sockets and ratchets. One for each drive size, 1/4, 3/8 & 1/2. In an effort to save space, I put all my sockets in one deep drawer, but then there wasn't enough room for the special and inch size sockets, so they ended up with the extensions. Then the ratchets went into a 3rd drawer.
So instead of using 3 shallow drawers, I now use 2 shallow and 1 deeper drawers. A step backward, not forward. :dunno:

I used to have them all on rails, now some are on Princess Auto Hansen type holders. Like other posters, I would prefer the business end of the socket to be pointed up.

My little bitty collection of 3/8" drive Craftsman USA sockets and ratchets plus a few other brands ratchets and breaker bars. Since this pic was taken I've picked up a 1/2" ratchet, a few extensions, and the start of a 1/2" drive socket collection, all CM-USA. Next will come a 1/4" flexy drive ratchet and sockets/torx/hex/etc, all CM-USA of course.

The socket holder is 1/2 mdf glued to hardboard.

Ive seen people doing it the way you are saying, with the sockets "hex" side facing up.. but I dont see the point when the socket rack has the size printed right on it.

Here is my socket drawer on my brand new KRL 1022

My dad's boxes are about that bad. Not just the sockets, but everything. He maybe owns two complete socket sets, rest are random sockets he picked up. Nothing funner then picking up 20 9/16" looking for a 5/8" socket.

How many of your guys use your chrome 1/2" sockets? I hardly ever touch mine and instead reach for my 1/2" impacts even if I am using a ratchet.

that is the way my 1/2 socket drawer is at work. I keep meaning to stop and get a Hansen tray for it. it drives me crazy but its my own fault.

Althou I still have some, I have phazed out a lot of my chrome in favor of impact in 3/8" and 1/2". Most of my chrome is 12 pt and impacts are all 6 pt. I don't see a reason to own a 6pt chrome socket and the exact same in impact.

I dont have a tall top drawer, so I have one drawer for each drive size. I keep SAE on the left, Metric on the right.

What type of paint do you use?

Coach

Just whatever is on my shelf. Kyrlon if i have it. Been painting my tools since I had tools. Like my father before me did. Some paint on a few sockets that I never use has been on there since I bought them in 1977. And this is for all of my tools not just sockets. Drills, wrenches, taps and dies...etc. Just a red spot for identification purposes.

Just for home use.

And my socket extension drawer. Still on the fence as to whether to add some impact extensions or not? Do they really make a difference?

Oops! Almost forgot my ATD hex and torx bit sets.

I only have a 26" box so I've had to hang some clip on socket trays on the sae side to give me a little expansion . I also have one tray with commonly used whitworth sockets and a mac twist lock rack stuck on the front to hold 1/2" shallow impacts.:

The metric side isn't too bad

Here's my work box and most of the sockets i had a bunch of them in my magnetic tray in the middle of a big job. The black Colman case is actually my Matco 3/8 swivel impact set. I have a drawer with a bunch of misc sockets and all my 12 point that barley ever gets used.
SAE on the left and Metric on the right.

These are only my 1/2" impacts (not all of them) and my 1/4" sockets, the rest are all at work.

They are on hansen style socket trays and they work great

Got these in the mail today. I'm finally getting around to properly organizing my metric sockets. I have two others already: one for standard 6 point, and one for 12 point.
These are great! Sockets are easy to find, easy to replace and easy to see what's missing or needed to complete a set. Also...made in the US!!

The first two I got was from eBay. These last two were from their website. I think the $63 on EB is for 2 of them.

Why do so many of you guys put the drive and up and not the hex end so you can see what size it is?

Depends on the socket tray type. Hansen trays for instance are designed to have the sockets stand with the drive square up since the pegs taper to the socket size. Other trays like the kobalt trays at Lowes have square drive size pins instead so the sockets stand the other way. When a Snapon socket is standing in a Hansen tray the numbers are right side up so you can read them also
