I got a message asking about these socket labels so just thought I would share my response with the group at large also...

the labels are Tool Tagz I picked up from Northern Tool locally in the store here in Minnesota. I can't seem to find them on Northern's web site, but here is the Tool Tagz site

http://tooltagz.com/

They are pretty good, but somewhat overpriced for what they are since you need several packs to label a full set of sockets (shallow, deep and 3 drive sizes).

I also made some using a Brother label maker, you can get yellow (and gold on black) tape for those also. The tapes run at least $20 in addition to the label maker, so no free lunch there either! But then you can customize your labels and they are also pretty tough like the ToolTagz. The label maker is good for all sorts of stuff like fastener labels too.

The labels stay on pretty good, they do shred sometimes if you are in a tight spot, but not too often.

They do make it a lot easier to find sizes quickly so overall I'm pretty happy with them.

Good luck to you!

Wat these are awesome! All my sockets are usa craftsman and are very hard to read, i have to pick up the whole socket rail and look them very closely to find a size.

These are awesome. Thanks for sharing, I saw something like this at my hardware store the other day but they looked really junky.

They would be great for me because most of my sockets are getting scratched and having to grab several sockets and fit them on the bolt.

I am trying to do a project with an old set of drawers and convert it into a socket cabinet and I think these would be good.

Seems like those would rub off when used. Guys ever heard of Hansen Trays? Also HF and Lowes has them too!

You are correct in that they not going to last forever, especially on your most frequently used sockets. But they are durable enough to make them worthwhile. If/when they get scrubbed off you just put on a new one, so it's really not that hard to keep them labeled.

The deep sockets are usually not an issue because the label is positioned out of harms way.

I strongly prefer these over Hansen tray type set ups because I can have several loose sockets sitting by a project and the labels are still useful.

I also like to be able use rail configurations to save space, so the labels are always there to keep things orderly at a glance.

The yellow SAE and black metric color scheme is also handy. Overall I think these are worth the effort.

In the spirit of splitting hairs... trays like the Hansen set up don't actually identify each individual socket, they just help keep them organized (according to their identity).

As soon as they leave the tray they can be tough to identify especially in poor lighting.

Stickers or labels help identify each tool, regardless of how they are stored/organized.

Ideally you would have both techniques going for you, clear identification on each individual socket AND a designated slot to keep each one.

Both approaches work fine, and they also work fine together.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but are these labels holding up after a few yrs?

I'm just a backyard mechanic with 3 cars to maintain. 2 of em are over 10 yrs old, so a bit of wrenching.

Thanks

My personal experience is they held up for about a month. I cleaned the sockets carefully with alcohol and used nitrile gloves to install them. On all my sockets smaller than about 1/2", the labels started to peel off (without any use) due to the curvature. So I wasted a lot of time installing them.
