The other simple one I've done is to use pegboard with 1/4" bolts poked in from the back. The spacing is about perfect for 3/8" drive.

For some of the 1/2" stuff, I just used Masonite as a divider since the spacing on 1" pegboard is to small for bigger sockets.

Doan,

I like what you've done.

The good thing about custom holders is that the wood is often free. If I don't like it, or I grow out of it, or I need to make additions, it's easy to re-do. It's tailored to suit your needs....it's limit is your imagination.

Here's a couple older ones I took photos of:

I know this is an old thread, but I am stuck. At home, in my shop, I have tool boxes with organizers for my Sockets. but in my work truck, I do not have room for a real tool box. I am looking for a clean and easy way to store my sockets that live on the truck. All of the shelving on my truck is open shelves, so my tools are currently in bags. below is how my sockets look a couple of weeks after reorganizing the bag. the sockets fall of the rails, and I end up having to dig through the whole bag just to find the one I need, HELP!!!

Look into Ernst rails with the twist lock. I use them for the sockets in my service truck, just throw the rail in the bag and go. In the meantime they're bouncing around in the road box, and hold on solid. No loose sockets.

You might look at the Mechanics Time Savers rails or the Craftsman equivalent.

Sorry it took so long to follow up with this thread. I had a mild heart atack, and was out of service for a short while

I ended up purchasing several different organizer types, and got most of it organized. The issue now is the same that got me all of these sets. "MISSING SOCKETS"

Multiple sets are missing individual socket sizes. and in many cases it is cheaper to buy an additional complete set, than the individual sockets that are missing.

I saw another post of yours and this image recently. If you're not worried when you lose an Harbor Frieght tool from your work tools, then I'd suggest just filling the voids with sockets from your local pawn shops. Pawn shop tools are the perfect tools for a set that one can't necessarily protect in a tool chest.

Have you tried Duluth's original product? A canvas bag that fits in a painter's tub would hold many of those things tools on the outside and many of those rails on the inside. The company has since expanded; I don't know whether they are made in U.S.A. or even nice any more.

Agreed, and I go through the loose bins there whenever I stop to shop in one. The problem is that the sizes I am "Missing", are the same ones that are missing from most sets. 7/16", 1/2", 10mm, 13mm, etc. I can almost never find them in the loose bin at the Pawn Shops.

I swear my Garage, and work truck are feeding on 10mm sockets. LOL

If you have any interest in buying SK tools directly from SK, then the $50 membership with one free socket per month was made for you. The prices directly from SK are much higher than from Harry Epstein's, but the sale prices aren't and may introductory tool prices and early access would be worth it.

Here's an update to my socket storage. Instead of packing everything as dense as possible, I decided to make it easy to use. All the 3/8" below with a few ratchets and extensions. It was a pretty tedious job, The MDF was intended to be practice, but its so much work that I just left it.

For the 1/2" drive I chose an easier alternative, for most of them I used a 1/2" dowel to hold the sockets, this went a lot faster.

Anyone created any 3D printed versions? I’d like one like the gray Craftsman, but with a lot less wasted space between all the rows.
