Socket suggestions

Today I was doing motor mounts on my car and overall they went smoothly.
Snap On 17mm flex socket,24" extension and a FLF80 was my setup.

I used some door sealant gunk inside the socket to install the nut on the top.
It worked but that stuff was AWFUL to get out of the socket

What would you guys use to hold a nut or bolt in a situation like that?

A piece of paper. Normal white paper will do. You put a small piece over the socket opening and force the nut in, works like a charm.

Usually regular grease works for me to hold nuts inside of sockets. Its easy to clean out with just a rag or some brake cleaner.

^^^ YEP! I usually use paper, or a gum wrapper to hold them in. tape is great too, especially for spark plugs

i normally use grease.

but most of my "working tools" already have grease in them....

I have even used leaves off the ground to hold nuts in sockets. It doesn't take much to keep it in there.

Grease,paper,tape,paper towel, use them all depends on what's near me or what im doing grease works fine and wipes off fine.

usually magenetic sockets
but other times, grease, rtv, bits of rags
i used grease the other day on a 350 distributor cap to hold the torx screws

I find a dab of grease works best and I never clean it when I am done, it keeps the rust at bay.

Tape or a piece of a shop towel.

I use masking tape for nuts and 1/4 inch round rare earth magnets from harbour freight on the drive end of ratchet or extension for bolts.

I wrap electrical tape around the top of the socket and let the tape hang over a bit when I wrap it. Pull it tight as you wrap and it closes off the end of the socket just enough.
