Is anyone still making these? I'm really after an 8mm but would buy a whole set.

The Craftsmans seem to be NLA

I am very interested in them as well, but not enough to pay the ridiculous prices summoned on e-bay. They represent another void left by Craftsman.

Also, I had to use a Craftsman spark plug socket because it has the same hex on it like these to access bolts for a rack and pinion.

Yup those Craftsman were unique for their time. I still have 2 sets one in metric the other one standard. They do offer a very low profile even less than a 1/4" ratchet/socket combo can.

Seems that Pass thru sockets widely available under many brands have generally replaced them these days, and they do offer a bit more versatility. The Craftsman also uses a different wrench size for each socket cap whereas many pass thru designs use a single size wrench for hex

Not exactly:

Proto: https://www.zoro.com/static/cms/product/large/Z_x1r_ncpEx_.JPG

MAC used to have them, maybe still does. Gearwrench makes a set like the Proto's

Snap On (and I'm sure others) has low profile sockets or you can make your own if you have access to a surface grinder.

I'm honestly not entirely sure what's in that pic....what's the black button in the center? Like a spring loaded ejector, or?

I'm genuinely curious, just not familiar with the product. Do you have a Proto part #? Or a GW part #? Failing that what would they call these? I wouldn't know what search terms to use on the GW site....

edit: I've faced sockets in the lathe, no need for a surface grinder

The three on the left appear to be wrench square drive adapters. The button on top I would imagine would be the "quick" release button.
Here it is, this appears to be the set PROTO Socket Adapter Set and the last one on the right is a 1/4 bit adapter. Pretty cool idea that one.

Thanks. After last replying I thought about it and finally figured the button must be the release for the socket detent ball. Just took my eyes and my brain awhile to get in sync.

Anyway, a potentially viable option - thank you

I got a set of 8-19mm free when I got a set of ringstop wrenches (I must the be the last person in the world that loves ringstop ratcheting wrenches as long as I also have normal ones).

Part number 22978 from Mobile Distributor Supply gets you an 8-19mm set for $11.98 plus shipping according to their site. The ones I received are 12pt and the same size top hex as the bottom 12pt socket.

Damn here's a knock-off from "Zenith" for $12.50

Reviews say the Protos are MIC, so the Zenith may not be far off the original. For $12.50 I'll give it a shot....

I am so glad. I get so much from this site, it is a privilege to get to give back. There is an SAE set too while you are at it and the ringstop wrenches are perfectly nice.

I also got a set of these with my new ratcheting wrenches, and they're great.

Still trying to figure out how to organize them though, I might just need to make a wooden stand/holder, either with pegs or with recesses.

Yep, those are them! I have the Craftsmans in both metric and SAE. They seldom get used but occasionally they're the only thing that'll work. I have wished at times that the Crafties were pass thru so the linked ones are tempting me.

A free HF mag bar works real good :D

Just as an FYI for this thread, the same set from the same supplier is also on Amazon $13.78 with Free Shipping.

Ok well thanks to MJO for the idea; I ordered the import set of adapters I linked in Post #15

It wasn't exactly what I started the thread about (I also ordered the OEM sockets which were exactly what I was after) but seemed a close second.

ANYWAY, I was just doing ignition coils on an '03 5.4 and you may know the #7 is directly under the FPR and is a ***** if you're being lazy like me and not yanking the fuel rail

Choice #1 would have been one of the SOCKETS, but all the sets bottom at 8mm and I of course needed 7mm

So, the next-best-thing of the adapters came out and the 1/4" drive adapter which fits in a 10mm ratcheting wrench saved the day

You can see the Zenith from Amazon came branded as Partsmaster

Thanks to all who offered suggestions!
