Who is a good vendor for good quality, crimp type wire ends? 10-22 gauge normal automotive type fittings, looking for nylon and heat shrink assortment.

I just checked
Zoro and under "solderless connector assortment" they are showing kits of various sizes. One is Panduit. That is a good industrial grade connector not some cheap import. If you see a kit you like, you can always google the model number for a better price. Zoro is good, though and ships for 5 bucks until you reach the free ship minimum.

Personally, i do prefer non insulated with shrink tubing,

That is the gold standard. Insulated cannot be crimped with an indent.
For the most part, I use the insulated though, purely out of convenience. But when only the best will do, non-insulated is the way to go.

Thomas & Betts Sta-Kon wrote the book on these things. Used with their matching crimper, you will not find anything superior.

Yes, Panduit and Amp make stuff I've had good luck with too.

Nylon insulated, double crimp connectors... if you need weather-tight then just add a bit of adhesive-lined heat-shrink. Not cheap, but high quality and very similar to AMP ones we use in Aerospace.

Crimp connections are primarily meant to be used with stranded wires. And with stranded wires, double crimp is not generally necessary, though not harmful either.

Some crimp connections allow the use of solid wires (though I would still discourage it), and in those cases, double crimps are an absolute necessity.

Well I guess we don't know how to build US government helicopters... if it ain't a circular/MIL connector then its a double crimp AMP PIDGs. Everything is strain relieved, tied and clamped. Total overkill for everyday usage, I agree.

Anchor makes a single crimp variety as well. I use un-insulated terminals as well (mostly with plastic connectors deutsch, weatherpak, sumitomo, etc..), but finding good connectors and open-barrel/f/b crimper is more difficult.
AMP, Panduit, Anchor, FTZ, Molex, etc... all good quality plated-copper connectors.

Honestly even those ubiquitous cheapy vinyl packs work if done with care... but anything is better than them. I used to cut off the nylon, crimp (sometimes solder as well) and then heat-shrink. Never had a connection fail down the road.

Heat shrink connectors can get damaged when crimped, so I avoid them. Cheaper and almost as easy to just apply so own heat-shrink afterwards.

+1 on T&B. Expensive but high quality.

Some insulated connectors have a metal sleeve inside the insulation that extends back over the wire. I believe that prevents the insulation from sliding back in high vibration conditions. In any event that second crimp is for the insulation whether there is a metal sleeve inside or not. If course, the single crimp is all that is needed for good electrical connection.

In most cases that is a good way to go. We routinely replaced solenoid controlled gates that used in line full insulated fast ons. The male insulation slides over the female insulation similar to the way the connector itself mates. That is hard to do with shrink. In most cases getting a heat gun in there would have been almost impossible

I know of the other quality brands but Ancor does not ring a bell. Are they a manufacturer or a re packager for the boating industry?
