I’m preparing to trim my work tops with solid oak trim. Since this is out in the garage, I’m looking for advice on the corner detail - should I miter the corner or **** joint them since they will be used quit e a bit. One of the corners is next to a lowered work surface for working on transmissions. IMG_4917.JPG

Yep, **** joints and radius the corner.
Plus, I would round over the top edge. That makes it safer as well as less likely to splinter or tear off if something heavy gets dragged up and over. Using a router and a round over bit is the best, but sanding works too.

I'd do a **** joint too. Overlap the front over the side pieces as the front will see the most abuse. You could run a couple screws into the joint and cover them with wood plugs for added strength.

Great idea with the plug as one of the corners was somewhat warped and has a small gap at the bottom.

What is the profile of the solid oak trim you are using? Is it just going to be a piece of 1x? If so I would just but it. Dovetail would look good and be a lot stronger **** definitely a lot more work but do able with a trim router and dovetail jig.

The dovetail comment was 100% a joke since the right answer (**** joint) had been given multiple times already

Yep. And simple, and quick.

And boring and lacking finesse.

Go big or go home.
