Excuse me....but am I missing something here? I don't see what the problem is.

In the electrical, it looks like he used the correct wire nut.

I didn't see any water leaks....

You can neve have enough electrical tape.....

Ok....maybe the one guy could have used a few wire ties to hold the outlets up....but no exposed wires.

I mean, this is perfectly good building building examples.....if you live in Mississippi...

Wow, those are all so crazy I don't know which one is my favorite?

Looks like there are a few people there that must wondering "what's that terrible odor coming up out of my sink?"

These are some examples when the saying "if you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself" doesn't apply!

Those were fun to see. Got any more pics?

#4 in the first batch is exactly what the master electrician that re-wired our first house did after installing new 200 amp service outside. Nutted everything in the two old boxes inside and ran it out to the new box. And it was inspected too.

Wow.... just WOW.... I got a really good laugh out of this one. I'm not even sure where to start... I mean. You have to give the guy points for creativity. I don't think that solution would even occur to me. "Outside the box" thinking indeed!

I'll take this one step farther. MOST people should not do plumbing or electrical. I can't even count the number of dangerous and stupid electrical wiring mistakes I've had to fix in my lifetime, and the things that people wanted to do that I talked them out of because they could kill themselves or burn down their house.

("The 20 amp breaker is tripping. Can I just put in a 30?" [#14 wired circuit])
("This wire should work for my kitchen range" [Five different pieces spliced together with bolts and electrical tape])
("Why are my receptacles burning up when I plug in my air conditioner?" [black and white wires all reversed])
("I need more power. Can I just replace my main breaker with a larger one" [How good is your home insurance?])
And, hundreds more.

Ive seen 4 breakers wired on so they dont trip. The guys said his family needed Christmas Lights and no one would upgrade his service the day before Christmas... He had a ton of lights on his house if i remember 4 miles or something. All the wires to those four were crunchy even melted bare in some places. He risked his entire family . I was a **** and told his wife if she valued her life not to let her husband do diy electrical any more... 6 months later she called and asked me to look at a light switch he replaced. 5 in of stripped hot before he backstabed.

Wow and I thought the PO work on my house was bad. Then again I haven't gone through the entire house yet I am sure I will discover more issues.

I'm wondering why the connections to the cord weren't soldered and covered with shrink tube? ::lol_hitti

"Code" only requires you wrap that splice with tape - your choice of electrical, masking, Scotch, duct, paper, athletic. In wet locations, it must be sealed completely with RTV or silicone caulk.

Is that plumbing code or electrical?

There were at least five of those when I moved into my shop. :lol_hitti What I don't understand is why they don't just cut the plug off and wire nut it? I know the guy had a ton of wire nuts....*sigh*

My first house had pretty much a 1/4 of those photos when I bought it. There was a lamp cord spliced into the old grid wiring up in the attic. There was masking tape wrapping some of those grid connections. The main power panel was in the bathroom..... above the bathtub. I could go on and on about that house.

About the old breaker box with the inside wires nutted: if the correct metal blanks had been used where the breakers had been removed, it would pass code.

What is the source for these photos? I'd like to share them with my old-school plumber dad.

EXACTLY! Even if you DON'T have wire nuts, it seems to be more logical to cut the plug off and twist the wires together. It's pretty obvious they didn't have electrical tape either..... :shocking:

Well because the nuts must be in a box, and the wires were probably not long enough to reach the new box, it works! :lol_hitti

Looks like drain traps are widely misunderstood! Sorry, but what's going on with the valves with the arrows?

Well another explanation is that the first valve was frozen shut and he added the second valve so he could open it:thumbup:

I know you think I've got that backwards, but you see, he couldn't have put the second in if the first was frozen open without getting wet:bounce:

My stomach hurts. I need to quit laughing.

Looks a lot like my neighbours place. He wanted me to do some fixing one time and after a quick look around I just shook my head and said I didn't know how....

everytime I see pics or hear stories like this it reminds me that I really need to get into the basement and start clearing all the old wire thats just terminated everywhere and start checking circuits, maybe I could do 1 a weekend and it wouldnt be so bad. Ill post some pics of my place when I moved in. Its nothing that dangerous, but theres some **** that makes me scracth my head, like almost every single receptacle box not sitting flush with the drywall or having 1 1/2 holes because the first one wasnt in the right spot. Do you realize how much of a pain in the *** those problems are to fix. Not to mention the 2 outlets that just dont work. <-those scare me, I really need to do that instead of playing here
