Well, I didn't know exactly where to put this since it's not exactly a "garage"....I have one of those out back though. But it is a workshop, so hopefully I don't get ostracized for it.
This is a progression of my "gun room". It started out as merely a corner of my full, unfinished basement.
As you can see in the pics it started with a workbench and slowly progressed. Unfortunately, the only old pics I have are of the corner of the basement where the workbench sits. So you'll just have to make due with pictures from one angle and use your imagination on the rest until I get you some additional pictures. Heres how it all got started and finally got to a point where I decided it needed to be its own room.
Just a workbench, lonely in the corner:
Old fridge lying around + workbench = getting better
And finally, here are where we were before I decided that my man cave wasn't secure enough from the women-folk....so it needs to be its own room:
As of now, the cinderblock is getting filled and painted. I sourced a nice big cabinet that will house ammo, magazines, cleaning supplies, etc. The room is only going to be about 12.5'x15' when the other two sides get framed in. But it should be plenty big enough for what I will be doing in there.
You can see the two windows in the pictures....they are getting replaced....either by some nice security windows or glass blocks. I like the idea of the glass blocks because you cant see through them, yet they let light in...and are more of a challenge to break through than a regular window. Regardless of which route I choose, they will have bars on the windows as an extra security measure.
A safe will be sitting to the left of the small window you see in the pictures. To the right of the workbench and the large window there is a door that leads outside. This door has paned glass and is getting replaced with a metal door with no windows. From this room into the basement there will be a set of metal double-doors on one side and a single metal door on the backside. If you can't tell already, I'm trying to make this room as secure as possible. Though I will have a large safe to house the most valuable things, I don't want anyone to ever make it inside.
Some other future plans for the room include pegboard above the workbench, a computer desk for my design projects, the turtle tank is getting moved to another room most likely, and the floor is getting painted or epoxied.
The painting is almost done and the walls should be going up in the next couple weeks, so I will keep you guys posted.
Hopefully there are some gun guys here that can appreciate this project. I know it's a little different than the norm around here, so hopefully I don't catch any hell for it....but I figure the only difference from some of the other projects around here is that its smaller and not housing a car
Thanks...stay tuned.
