I feel as if I am gaming the system when I take back a socket that I bought in the 1970's or maybe even the 1960's and split the side open when trying to loosen a stuck bolt by using a 4' piece of pipe as a cheater bar!

A Hand tool is not a power tool, the power tools have never ever had a lifetime guarantee and that is made very clear.

Precisely

The hand tools warranty has always been "if this tool fails to give complete satisfaction" for as long as I can remember. Any chrome hand tool is fine to return.
