For some reason I thought I had posted pictures of the inside of the tank, I guess they were in the other thread. I think I am going to abandon the other thread and just keep posting about it in this one.

Anyways here is all the ugliness:

Strouty: a couple months ago i had to pass on a great deal on a 25 HP 3 phase with i think 150 gallon tank because i couldn't figure out how to power it up. i didn't think about diesel power and not sure if rotary power can power that big of a compressor.

do as you wish, but i'd pass on the tank and make a nice smoker or couple fire pits out of it.

good luck in any direction you choose.

cheers

Thanks drives, I am not sure myself. Local dealer quoted my a little over $1000 for a vertical tank. I am going to ask about a horizontal with the pedestal on it. I am going to use this one for the time being at less pressure so I can feel more comfortable about it. I have a call in to the State Boiler Inspector to talk with him and get his facts ( I am sure he will not give any opinions ).

My drawer liners did not come in and I am a bit upset. I guess since the toolbox came in early, they are going to make me wait for the liners.

I did get my 12/24 volt booster pack and it works very nicely. It is one heavy *******! It jump started the 6x6 with ease. But it appears that the batteries may have finally given up the ghost. I am going to charge them with a bit more amps and then inspect each battery individually. It would be nice if just one of the four was bad, but they have tags on them from 2008, so I am betting they are no good.

At this point I am waiting on a quote for a new tank, just want to see what they have for pricing. I am still using this one for the initial startup, I can't justify a new tank when I do not know if the pumps are good. I am going to finish welding up my fork brackets so that is done. Once I have all the facts I will determine how long I am going to use this tank.

Yesterday I left the 5 ton's batteries on charge and some how the charger switched to 1 amp mode, so I still haven't gotten a full charge in them yet. I may just move it out of the way and leave the charger going for a while. It has a desulfation mode, so it says it can take a while, they even said a few weeks in the manual. I just want to get them charged up so I can at least see if all the batteries are junk or just some of them. I really don't want to replace them unless I need to, this truck isn't going to make me any money and the batteries are over $1000 for new ones.

Well the charger switched itself to 1 amp mode again. I am going to call the manufacturer and find out what is going on, seems like something is wrong.

I decided that it was time to buy my own hot water pressure washer, so I found a good used one and picked it up. Then I loaded up my 325 gallon water tank and brought it home to fill it up. You may not remember, but my shop has no running water.

On a really good note, I think I may have found someone to buy the boat with the motor. I should actually say trade, but either way it may be going away forever.

This weekend I am going to wash out the compressor tank and get it really clean, then take a final look. Seems like the consensus from most of the people I have talked to is that the tank should be fine. The manufacturer adds huge safety factors into the tanks for commercial applications and most of the failures that result in tanks exploding seem to have other issues as well. Usually there is either no pressure relief valve or a broken one. I plan on addressing all safety issues and adding some extra ones as well.

Glad to hear that you've come to that conclusion. You are worrying yourself sick over this. But as I said to you over the phone, now you have given me some food for thought. THANKS ALOT:bounce:

We managed to get the 2 post into it's new position yesterday. Now if they'll get off their asses and send me my new one, I'd be happier.

Don't think I helped you much. But always good to talk to you.

It may be here this Friday, but could be as late as next Friday. I'm impatient.

Any date on when the inspector will show up for you?

Yeah, I called his "state phone number" and it says to call his cell phone for faster service. That was on Monday, but who is counting.

I will call again and leave another message, but I don't want to get him too curious.

I am headed to Edgecomb today, but it looks like it is going to be a full day so no visit. I hope your lift gets there soon.

Me too. If you get out early, give me a call. Although I have a lot of running around to do today, so I may not even be here.

Went to the job site today and found out that we could not install the new antenna. Apparently during shipping from Italy, a few of the coils got damaged and we have to wait a few weeks to get new ones. I reinstalled the rotor cage and removed some old equipment, also got the new power cable run up the inside of the pole. I also got to use my Proto ratcheting wrenches out in the wild, put some hefty strain on them and they felt great in my hands! Here are a few picks from the day, I also got to wear my new Ninja shirt, it has a hood and face shield to keep the sun off you, it seemed to work very well. I am ordering another one tonight so I don't have to wash it every time I wear it.

I guess I didn't realize that I missed an update, on Wednesday I ended up out at the island helping out mowing the hayfield that was once a lawn. I was impressed with the little john deere, it just kept going. Here are a few pictures of the cottage and the view it has. We will be building a pier out there at some point over the next year, right now we figure we will wait until after the season is over so there won't be anyone around to complain about the noise.

Today is kind of a lazy day, I have some new to me tires and rims I want to put on my car and I should do an oil change as well. The subrurban needs to be unloaded and I have some equipment that a customer bought that needs to be strapped to a pallet so it can ship next week.

On a good note, my drawer liners came in, so I should be able to finish loading the new tool box up. I think I may do a tool collection and get every tool out and figure appropriate locations for them to go. The other day I needed a tool and could not find it, I must have spent a half an hour looking for it and still did not find it. Then I decided I could use a different tool for the same application and you guessed it, I couldn't find that one either. I would really like to get my big bench cleared off as well.

Of course after saying all of this, I did go and buy a hot water pressure washer so I could clean my own stuff, like the compressor tank. I should be concentrating on that, but it is so easy to put off.

Strouty: love the pictures. sorry to hear the part had an issue. some of the fork lift drivers and truckers never seem to have an issue and then there are the ones that just want to get paid and do a ****** job that usually do the damage and give a business a bad name.

i feel your pain with the missing tools and I've been working on my mess for a few months and still can't find everything.

good luck and i updated the losing weight thread and added you to the list. i also put a few of the diet plans in a post maybe #15 in case some of us get stuck. smaller plate full of food might be a good start for you. and plenty of water especially if you are out in the sun.

cheers

Drives, I will check out the thread from the beginning to see what updates have been posted. Thanks for adding me, I need all the help I can get.

Figured I would post some pictures of my "new" pressure washer and my water supply. I have no running water, so I loaded up 325 gallons and brought it over.

The pressure washer uses 3 gallons a minute at full pressure, I hope that just the pressure of the water will create enough to keep it going, if not I will either have to set up a pump to feed it or maybe expand the reservoir on the pressure washer so it has more of a buffer.

It is funny that when you buy wheels with tires all ready on them you don't always think about the size differences. I was after the 17" rims more than anything, but apparently the tires are a bit smaller. Kind of looks goofy, but I don't have all four on yet. Hopefully it will look better with all of them on. I found out the size tire I do need and it is a very common size so they are reasonably priced. I figure I will drive the rest of the summer on the current ones, then buy new all season ones for winter, then I can sell the old one in the spring.

I got the drawer liners in, so that is one thing off my list! Just doing a quick update while I took a water break, gotta keep the fluids up.

It was pretty nice for sure. On the weekends it can get pretty busy, there are about 15 houses on the island. No cars, but there are ATVs, most everyone keeps to themselves, but since my grandfather past last spring the place has really been unattended. None of the children except my Father really want anything to do with it. They will probably end up selling it, it is our aim to buy it and keep it in the family if possible.

I got the rest of the tires changed and the car looks better, but they are definitely smaller in diameter. Can't wait to see the speedo difference. I am going to stop over to the local tire place and get some pricing on new ones. I also figured since I had done it once, maybe I would try and mount them myself, that would give me an excuse to buy more tools.

That's a real pity. I really hope you can buy it to keep it in the family. I wish we had a place like that, I'd probably spend weeks there haha.

5 siblings makes for a royal PITA. I am not even involved other than with my Father. He actually had a meeting today, most likely some interesting stories to be heard this weekend.

Two of the sibling don't care about it either way and two of them want to sell. The problem is even though it was only appraised at about $300K there are other properties on the island for sale in the $2.3 million range that are smaller. At $300K we can make things work, at $2.3 million it would not be as easy. Who knows, I would love to be able to keep it in the family for sure.

Glad you got the liners in, now you can load that thing up!! Rims look good, they'll be even better once you get the right size tires but they look good as is too, WIN-WIN.

I can tell you I was second guessing myself when I had one new one on the front a an old one on the rear, it looked terrible. After taking it on some errands, I got to see it from a distance in a parking lot and it looks pretty sharp. I have always hated the old rims, plus with so many xc70s floating around, they all look the same. I am going to wait until I get my sunex rebates back, that will knock $225 off the price of new tires. My GF needed new tires on her xc70 in a bad way, so I figured she can take my almost new 16" stock wheels and tires. That is the real WIN-WIN situation. ;)

I've always wondered about your avatar and if you really own a Volvo with all the other vehicles you have. Now I see the answer. The new wheels look great and it is nice to have your vehicle look a little different and special compared to the others on the road.

Hopefully this weekend has decent weather. I will need to move a few things outside so I can clean up the inside, if it is raining I may not get to do that. I can't wait to load up the toolbox, I am still thinking that I am going to use painters tape and a sharpie to label some drawers for a while. I also think I am going to have to separate the ratchets into their own drawer. I will update with my progress as things go. Headed to bed now, it has been a long, hot, and humid week.

Strouty: check out Jeremy's thread because he just bought or was gifted as a father's day present a label maker and some magnetic blanks to put his labels on his metal cabinets. that way if you want to change the drawer's contents later either move the label or make a new one. tape works for tomorrow and just saying for the future.

also check out the bench Jeremy made to top off the metal old I think kitchen cabinets. he was looking for a big piece of butcher block and very spendy so i suggested he might start looking for 3 x 8's and bigger. he found some shortly thereafter in an old guy's barn and even though he spent a lot of time planing and varathaning it i think it looks awesome. i think you mentioned something about building a wood bench. or was that you?

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=247057&highlight=Hodgepodge

anyway the label maker he has does the job and it's on my list of things to buy soon.

cheers

It's definitely been a long, hot, humid week! Omfg I almost had a heat stroke wed I think, idk really though I've been up since noon yesterday working on the hot rod and was up for 20 hrs the day before with only a few hours sleep, it's starting to shape up though finally.

Strouty, i noticed you mentioned it took a good bit of heat to remove those plugs in your compressor tank. Any thoughts if the application of heat could lead to a weak spot where it could blow out or fracture? I'm not a metallurgist, nor do i claim to be, and i didn't stay in a holiday inn last night, but it's just a thought.

Well, I ended up taking yesterday off, so now I feel like I am behind.

I picked up some lunch meats and snacks for the shop fridge so I can try and keep to my goal to lose some weight.

My GF wants me to make a wooden backer for the new house numbers, but she wants the edges routed, so I have to dig out some wood working tools today. I was almost thinking about trying to finish up the office credenza at the same time. I also would like to swap her wheels for the ones I took off my car the other day. Her car has two year old michelin defenders (90k mile rated) that are almost bald with 24K miles on them. I will never buy those again!

I know next week I have some paperwork to do for the towers and I also should have my miller 211 so I need to get that rebate done as well as the sunex one. Then I have to decide if I am buying a 500 gallon tank for my heating oil, used and old, but has an access hatch and it looks like it is in decent shape. I had my heart set on a 660 gallon tank, but it is a lot more expensive than the 500 gallon.

I second the magnetic labels much better than tape.

I am ordering a couple of sets of these for the new boxes.

http://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Magnetic-Craftsman-Cornwell-organize/dp/B00GG3K6S6

Will the 660 gal tank take you through the whole winter where the 500 wouldn't?

If so it might be worth the extra if you are going to need a refill anyway I would save the money now and pre-buy fuel for the whole winter.

Strouty: my Michelins seem to be wearing out sooner than i thought they would've too so i'll have to check the mileage on my wife's and my Hondas. I've only bought Costco's Michelins for maybe the last 20 or 30 years now.

awesome that you picked up snacks and lunch meat for your garage fridge. eating 6 small meals a day is another good plan besides the small plate one.
good luck

wondering if you can buy an oil tank and a compressor tank from the same company and maybe save money by buying 2 tanks?

enjoy your Sunday

Thumper, the 660 will make it through the whole winter, the 500 probably not. I just like the idea of filling up when it is cheaper. Right now we are hovering around $2 a gallon. If I get the old doors out and the one new door in, I may use a lot less. These old doors are just wood and you can see through them in places.

Drives, I have not yet seen a place that sells both style tanks. I am going to use my compressor tank for a while and monitor it for rusting.

All, I have magnetic material, just forgot about it. I have been using the painters tape as it is quick, then once I know that is the label I want, I go to the magnetic, unless of course it is on plastics!

I just welded up the fork pockets on the compressor tank, I am going to quickly clean up the welds and then spray bomb the new steel with some primer. I tried to find a match to the quincy blue, but nothing has really worked. I tried ford blue, new holland blue, sail blue and they are all way too bright. Technically I didn't try the first two, but based on the caps, they are just as bad as the sail blue and I didn't want to waste $12 for nothing. I am honestly thinking that I am going to paint the entire thing and not worry about matching it. I am leaning towards something fancy, like purple metallic, then I can call the compressor "Barney".

Then I would go with the 660 gal. One of our building would go through about 700 gal a year, so we would watch the price and pre-buy 750 gal when the price was lowest and then have it delivered as needed. I don't know if your oil company does that or not.
