My wife seems to have an affinity for finding these kinds of tools and suggesting I get them.

She bought me a dogbone wrench for Christmas.

At least her heart is in the right place.

I used to get the yearly gimmick Craftsman tool for Christmas.

I came to like it. And I miss not getting them anymore. It's something that you wouldn't buy for yourself. It's certainly better than a tie, and potentially more useful than an umbrella or another pair of gloves.

Ya know, if it weren't $25, I might buy one just to knock apart to make a couple custom tools - looks like it has "potential". :D

And yet it gets fairly high reviews on the sears site. How odd.

Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

We've been learning sears censors reviews. With the craftsman stubbies, they're not posting reviews where people say that they're not chinese made. This has been verified a few times through that discussion in the 'hot deals' section as people try to buy up the last of the USA stubbies.

I wouldn't have believed it possible to create a tool worse than a Dogbone but Sears proves me wrong again!

i leave a dogbone in our oil drain car at work. best use i've ever found for one.

Who ever thought this was a good idea should get kicked in the nuts. How does it even save space? Looks about the same size as 4 wrenches with the 100th of the usability.

it and the dogbone thing are good for one thing...oil drain plugs...using it on anything else is kind of stupid

Sears claims 8 sizes. I suppose each wrench is double broached.

Here they are:

Metric sizes include: 8mm, 9mm, 10mm, 11mm, 13mm, 15mm, 17mm and 18mm

That makes sense, did not notice any in the photo. I am surprised they did not make make it sae too so the could advertise it as universal and that it replaces like 10 million sockets, wrenches, pliers.

What is going on with that differential? Bolts are facing the wrong way and are clearly not even the right bolts.
Guess they just staged a photo and the guy who set it up knows nothing about what he is working with.

Besides the 12 point it don't look THAT bad to me. I mean it should do what it's supposed to based on the design just that most guys won't have a use for one (won't use it). Homeowner dude with a brand new pair of dickies carpenter pants to change the oil in his gently used honda accord probably has a use for such an item.

I'm not judging I'm just saying. You can buy a decent set of import wrenches for around the cost of these gimmick items but that's not what dude x is looking for on his ipad.:D

Not to mention that there is no way that dude would be trying to loosen/break the torque coming from that angle. Almost like twisting a screwdriver in this case.

Plus, no grease or fluid on powderpuffs hands either. No way he got that deep into a diff without getting a little messy.

Yeah if you are into tools, you don't need it. But you already have your wrenches and had for years. They are going after the apartment dweller who doesn't have the space or need for expensive wrenches.
People who buy these for you just don't have a clue as to what you could use. Just like you going to a shoe store and buying your woman a pair of shoes on your own. Think you would do any better? Definitely not, if you did, it only means your wife is the same gender as you.
Whining about these tools is being a tool snob. Not pretty on anyone.

Personally, I quite like the concept. As a general emergency or occasional use spanner for someone who doesn't have a toolbox full of spanners, that's not a bad idea, IMHO.

Son of Dogbone? I'd say so, exhibiting all the same bad gimmicky genetic traits found on its predecessor......it's big, clunky, and requires that there be almost nothing within eighteen inches of the fastener to be turned with it in order to have proper clearance. I'm not a pro tech and I still view it as being absolutely worthless even in a DIY setting. And for the record, I wouldn't even consider using it (or a traditional dog bone wrench) for the "oil pan drain plug" scenario either. Both seem like dumb tools with no PRACTICAL use. I suppose uses could be invented for them, but none that couldn't be accomplished with something else. It's just another gimmick tool that will never find its way into my shop.

Father's day is coming up. Many unsuspecting fathers will be getting this pile of **** along with packages of socks, ties, and other items they probably don't want.

Could be worse, they could get that mach sliding ratcheting adjustable or that yankee ratchet.

I got the Black & Decker electric crescent wrench from my wife when we were dating. It's so highly impractical, but I still keep it in my toolbox as a display since it reminds me of when we dated. Her heart was in the right place.

the yankee ratchet was a good idea, but the Chinesium made it fail...if it were made by say snap on or armstrong, we would all prolly own one or two

Why is it so bad? Anyone use one yet? People buy the swivel head wrenches and like them ... .so what is the difference, especially if it's strong enough to take it?

Kinda big, but might be something to have in an emergency tool kit ... again, if it is strong enough. Never seen one before.

I don't know, I would have to see a high quality version to believe it. Not sure what advantage it would have over a speeder bar.

hell, the ratcheting screwdriver is way quicker than the yankee screwdriver, but i still want one...mainly cuz of that one scene from breaking bad where Mike uses it to break into the police headquarters...

anyway, if one of the better tool companies made a ratchet like that, it would be decent enough to own...maybe not use all the time, but just good to be there

Sears isn't marketing this POS to anyone who might actually use it.
They're marketing it to people who might actually buy it.
" Oh, look honey, I was at the mall today and found you this cool new wrench at Sears. It's a Craftsman!"

"Thanks, dear, I'll put it in the toolbox with the other dogbone wrenches, the versadriver, the robogrip pliers, rotoratchet and all the other tools you bought me on QVC."

I would only by one for simple drain plugs since no one else would care to have sticky hands for one of these
