A while back someone posted a link to the website of I think, the one he shows there. Mixed reviews. I welded up my own version but it engages on the length of the wrench not the open end. Just to make sure it doesn't mess up one end of the open jaws. I actually got the idea after someone (Ruger556?) posted one he made on here.

As soon as I saw the video I had to turn the volume all the way down so I didn't have to listen to the guy talking.

zkling, any pictures of your homemade one?

Dont they make extra long wrenches for this issue? The product is trying to fix a probelm, when there really isnt a problem.

It's cheaper to buy one of these than a whole set of extra-long combo wrenches.

I kinda like it. I'd never imagined Vise Grips on just one jaw of the open end. That's tempting fate. I've seen a box end of another wrench linked up that way, though.<- I typed that while crazytrain posted his pic.

My other reaction to loud Scotty (who I've always liked) is that he needs a minimal-clearance ratchet, like:

http://harborfreight.com/14-in-and-38-in-Drive-x-14-38-in-Double-Head-Flex-Ratchet-Wrench-67994.html

And maybe some shallow sockets (isn't that an SO product?) Or, of course, a lathe and a socket that's about to become a special tool forevermore.

Who needs this special tool when what you really need is 23 more tools, a drill press, a welder, and a lathe? Heh, okay, I've been hanging around GJ too much...

It's two bars with two studs welded between, do we really need a picture?

I think it's the second or third time around for that tool on you tube. Eric the car guy did a review and I think scotty kilmer did a video before on getting more torque from a wrench with that tool.

To me, it's a case of being professional and having the right tool for the right job. Zero offset long wrench or the gearbox XL or even a serp belt tool would perform the task quickly. I'm not a fan of double wrenches but, that's just me.

I kind of leary about tool review videos. Often it's an infomercial and a way to supplement someone's income.:dunno:

And there's 3 sizes! How'd I ever do without them. Yep, I'm going to have to get a bigger box. ;)

The only thing that saved the video for me was that class black t-shirt at the end.

I have really long wrenches, therefore there is no problem, this guy needs to visit ebay and buy a nice long wrench for his pulley bolt

Gotta give the inventor props though. Not many of us have actually "made" a tool ourselves.

True, there might be better options out there, but it's still pretty cool.

I like the actual XL wrenches meant for the job, but I might pick one of these up anyways. I like unique tools. Maybe in 100 years my Great-Grand Kids will sell it on Fleabay-3000 for a couple grand.

Ah, nevermind. COO is China.

I would've bought one being that the inventor is a fellow Marine, but something like this should've been pretty cheap to make over here.

I think I'll make my own!

so whats a breaker bar for or that cheater pipe that fits all three sizes eliminating the need to buy three of those. And what 46 year mechanic has only craftsman or did he not want to risk the good tools?

We've gone around on this thing a couple of times already. The consensus seemed to be that it seems like a good way to screw up your open ends.

Also, the fancy cheater bar is not doing anything that a large number of other tools don't already do better.

The real question with that video is WTF was he doing with the Vise Grips on one jaw of a wrench? That's begging for trouble.

Not really needed, I can picture two pieces of steel and two studs. Just thought a simple picture would show the details of how you did it. What you did for a handle and how you welded your studs in and if the two bars were cut at an angle like the tool in video, etc. Sounds like I got your ******* all wound up asking for a picture so sorry if it was asking too much.

Well, there's a reason this emoticon exists, right? We may not NEED to, but most everyone WANTS to see pics of custom made tools!

:needpics:

Also, as usual, the Wadsworth constant is highly applicable to this video. (The first 30% of the video can be skipped without missing anything of relevance.)

This guy is pretty annoying, and has a lot of info that is his own opinion. The only other vid of his I saw, he talks down on old mercedes diesels, saying they cost too much to maintain.

I bought an 81' 300d with about 280k on it, and have driven it about 15k more with nothing more than changing the oil, buying new tires, and glowplugs. I bought the car for $500 and drive it daily. Maybe I should have listened to scotty so I could have saved all that money....

Sorry I'm lost! How do they work?

Essentially, it has the appearance of two consecutive sized bolt heads with a washer in between.

If you are trying to loosen a 13mm bolt use the 13/14mm combo in this kit. one size is 13mm, the other is 14mm. One side goes on one wrench and the other size on the other wrench. This tool takes the place of where the two wrenches join to make the "double wrench". Takes the wobble out too.

As a plus, since you are using a tool that uses hex surfaces, you can turn your "double wrench" into an indexed wrench for a different angle needed.

Exactly. I just use a breaker bar in that case...
